Three years ago, a group of pastors in south Louisiana gathered together to pray for revival in their community. Then last fall, long before the Asbury outpouring in the spring, hundreds of believers began praying together for awakening. Now more than 1,300 souls have turned to Christ.
Baptist Message‘s April edition reported 513 saved during revival services in October and November at Old Zion Hill Baptist Church, Independence, La. Then in an inter-denominational tent crusade in Hammond, which began in November and marched on through the spring, more than 800 came to faith, while Christians prayed around the clock.
An estimated 25,000-30,000 people attended the months-long event, according to Charisma News (March 29). “People brought in items that had kept them in bondage—from alcohol, tarot cards, voodoo dolls and more—and set them on fire as they sang about the victory they had received in Christ.”
Stories of transformed lives include a man about to commit an evil act repenting in the parking lot and handing his life over to Christ instead, entire families coming to faith, youth hungering for the Lord and digging into the Word, a man filled with anger choosing forgiveness and then setting things right with those he once stood against, and the list goes on.
Area churches have banded together to email and visit every new believer, inviting them into discipleship groups to help them grow in their new walk with Christ and share His love with others.
O God of Revival, please grow every one of these new believers strong in their faith. Give them courage to turn from their old way of doing things and walk out in Your empowering to live for You every moment of every day. Plant them in loving churches that will grow them in Truth. Empower them to share Your love with lost family members and others they meet. May this revival continue on for many years, Lord, transforming all of Louisiana by Your grace and love. We praise You for what You are doing and we ask You for all the more. Give every heart in south Louisiana and all throughout the state and nation a deep hunger for You that will not quit until each life surrenders to the One life is for. Meet them in their dreams. Talk to them throughout the day. Bring kind, loving Christians into their path to share Your good news in a way they can easily understand. Lift the veil from the eyes of those who have run from Your grace, and show them who You truly are. Perform signs and miracles and wonders by Your hand so that all will see You alone are God. Strike satanists to the core with the truth of Your grace. Break the chains that have bound them to occult and other evil acts. Move them to burn their fetishes and seek the greatest Power of all. Turn hearts of violent criminals from abuse and murder to surrender to the One who is Love. Cleanse the hearts of husbands, wives, pastors, leaders, and youth from sexual sin and satisfy them with Your never-ending love. Mend marriages. Bind up the broken-hearted. Heal those taken over by mental illness. Set free those captive to drugs, alcohol and other addictions. Turn every heart around to run in Your direction. Where destruction, abuse, fear and violence have reigned, bring forth new LIFE through Your love and salvation. Wherever people have lost hope, come in and renew them Isaiah 40 style. Mount them up on Your wings as eagles to soar over every trouble as they place their faith in You. Give young people a fervent hunger for You so they will seek You with all their hearts and find You. Grant them courage to rise up out of the trends of today to passionately and humbly serve You alone. Raise up a generation holy unto You, sharing Your love in such bountiful ways thousands more will step into Your Kingdom. Yes, Lord, we praise You for this Awakening, and we ask You for all the more. Awaken the whole nation to Christ. In His name we pray. Amen.
