Bola Tinubu, sworn in as president of Nigeria last month, has named replacements to lead the military, police and defense intelligence. In addition, he is expected to appoint new boards for all government agencies within the next few weeks, Fox News reported Monday.
For years now, the mainly Christian nation has been wracked with violence at the hands of Fulani and Islamic terrorists. Just a few days ago, a Catholic priest was shot dead, just one more tragedy among more the 300 Christians killed in the last month, and hundreds more earlier this year. In fact, of the 5,621 Christians martyred worldwide last year, 90 percent (5,014) were killed in Nigeria. The most abductions (4,726), sexual assaults, forced marriages, home and business attacks, and mental and physical abuses against Christians also occurred in Nigeria, which is second only to China in the number of churches attacked last year.
Such violence has long raged out-of-control in the West African country, which holds the largest economy on the continent and is expected to soon tie with the US as the world’s third most populous nation (behind China and India). Limited resources have all-too-often left Nigeria’s security forces outgunned and outnumbered by local terrorists.
Lord, please empower every new official in Nigeria to rise up out of selfishness, fear, greed or corruption and courageously choose to protect and bless citizens by capturing, immobilizing and punishing terrorist groups. Give Tinubu wisdom as he appoints new boards to govern. Place in office those You have ordained to open the way for persecution to cease, so Your people can openly worship and fearlessly share Your good news with others. Put an end to the reign of violence, O God. Visit Tinubu in his dreams at night, and guide his decisions throughout the day. Use him as Your vessel to bring the terrible turbulence under Your control. Provide and protect funds to equip security forces to find, capture and punish every terrorist so the murders, rapes, abductions, devastation and other evil acts of violence will cease. Provide for the safe release of Christians held hostage. Be a Shield around everyone in danger and open the way for their escape. Heal the hearts, minds and bodies of those who have survived attacks. Open the way for every person all throughout Nigeria to know the truth of Your salvation and be saved. We especially ask You for the persecutors and murderers. Haunt them in their sleep with dreams that convict them of their horrendous crimes. Grip them with such fear of the Lord they repent and call upon You to forgive, redeem and save them. Wash away the rivers of innocent blood with the beautiful redeeming blood of Christ, as You honor every life martyred for their faith in You. Bring forth tens of thousands of conversions, especially from Islam to Christianity. For every Christian martyred, bring forth 1,000 new believers. For every church and Christian home destroyed, raise up thousands more families and churches who follow You as Lord. Guard every believer, family, church and village with visible Heavenly armies that leave persecutors trembling in such fear of the Lord they drop their weapons and run. Miraculously heal and bring back to life those maliciously injured or killed. May the news of Your acts of mercy and love spread far and wide until every person in all of Nigeria knows the power of Almighty God and every Muslim at last bows to the truth that Jesus is the only Way to salvation. Cause Muslim families to hate violence and long for the God of Love, so they will seek You with all their heart and find You. And we ask You, Lord, also for the salvation of every person in leadership all throughout the nation. Convict them of their sin, show them Jesus, break them free from every chain that has held them back from You, and make them so hungry for Your love and guidance they choose You as Lord, leading many others to know You as well.
