Pakistan: Christians Wrongfully Accused

A 24-year-old Christian has been sentenced to death after a false conviction of breaking Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. Morning Star News reported that police broke into Noman Masih‘s home to arrest him while he slept — the same time he is accused of showing blasphemous images of Islam’s Prophet Muhammed to a group of people in a park. Pray he will be acquitted and his life spared.

At the end of last month, a 28-year-old Christian housecleaner who tried to leave her job due to pregnancy complications was held for a week against her will and beaten repeatedly. Asma Gulfam had served her Muslim employers faithfully for many years, seeking to show them God’s love. In all that time, they never accused her of wrongdoing. But when she asked to leave, they accused her of stealing money and forcibly confined her in a room for eight days, where she was repeatedly beaten by the employers and several police officers. When Adna’s husband, a rickshaw driver, reported her missing, police arrested him and illegally confined him for a week. Once released, he rushed his wife to the hospital. So far, the baby is still alive, reports Morning Star News. Pray for a safe delivery, for protection over both mother and baby, for Asma’s acquittal from the false allegations, and for violence and abuse against Christians to stop.

Nearly 98% Muslim, Pakistan ranks 7th on Open Doors’ World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for Christians. Blasphemy cases against believers are on the rise, as are abductions, abuse and forced marriages of Christian girls to Muslim men. With 828 unreached people groups comprising 99% of the population, most Pakistanis have never heard the Good News about Christ.

Lord, please have mercy. Be a Shield of protection around Norman, Asma, their families and all Christians in Pakistan. Hide them from those who mean them harm, but bring to them seekers who truly want to know the God who is Love. Use every believer as a bright light, shining for You in the midst of such deep darkness and drawing the lost up into Your arms. Give Christians grace to forgive their persecutors. Whenever someone comes against them, rise up, O Lord, and fight for them. Provide them with a way of escape and deliver Your children from evil. Make Your angels so visible that persecutors will fall to their knees, trembling in fear of the Lord. Meet every lost person so vividly in their dreams that they cannot deny who You are. Lift the veil from their eyes and show them clearly the way to salvation through Christ. March in Your angel armies and fight for those who have not yet heard the Good News. Open the door for Your Word to be translated into every language and made available to every person in a way they can easily understand. Lord, so many Pakistanis have seen Muslims fight against Muslims, both through clashes with neighboring Afghanistan and also with minority groups within their own country. Grow within every heart a yearning for hatred and suffering to be eliminated, and a longing for love, peace, life, and the MORE they were created for. Then show them You are the answer they are looking for. Raise into power leaders who seek to bless, not oppress their people, who will open the way for Your Gospel to spread like wildfire across the mountains and many thousands to be saved. Awaken Pakistan to You, O King of Glory. Open the ancient doors and enter into every home and every heart in every town and village all across the nation. May Your Kingdom come to Pakistan.
