One passenger train hit another, killing nearly 300 people and injuring over 800 in India’s Odisha State on Friday.
Home to 2,373 distinct people groups, India is 80% Hindu and 90% unreached with the Gospel. Due to anti-conversion laws and Hindu violence against Christians, the South Asian nation of more than 1.4 billion people ranks 11th on Open Doors’ World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for those who follow Jesus.
Lord, please heal those who are injured and comfort those who mourn. Open the hearts of the lost to hunger for Your love. Please bring Christians to these families to minister to their needs and show them Your love. The vast majority of Indians bow to idols and worship hundreds, even thousands of false gods. They know not of the One True God who created them for Your glory. They have never heard of Your plan for their salvation. They don’t yet know the loving sacrifice Your Son gave so they can be free. They live in darkness without Your Light to save, heal and guide them. Lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as You truly are. Break the chains that bind them to demons, to violence, to persecuting those who love both You and love them. And save them, Lord. As they long for a better life, point the way to Christ. Make Your grace known to every heart. We ask You especially for these families who are suffering now in the midst of so much loss. Please meet them in their grief. Hand them a Bible and point them to the verses that bring comfort, hope and salvation. Meet them in their dreams and show them the way to eternal life through Christ. Awaken India to Your love, O Lord. May Your salvation rise like the dawn in every heart, chasing away the darkness with Light.
