Hundreds of martyrs have fallen over the past two months in Nigeria at the hands of Fulani herdsmen and other Muslim extremists.
As you read these horrific accounts of killings in various states, please
- Pray God will comfort those who mourn, and give them grace and courage to forgive.
- Ask Him to be a Shield around every church, minister, Christian village, family and believer in Nigeria, hiding them from those who seek to do them harm and blocking every evil attack. Pray He will make the way for their escape and get them to safety before any attack occurs.
- Pray He will fight for His people, invading terrorists’ dreams with visions of Jesus calling them to repent. Pray He will march in His angel armies to oppose evildoers so radically they will fall to their knees in fear of the Lord and be saved.
KADUNA: Terrorists slayed 27 Christians in attacks on March 10 and 14 in two separate villages. Around the same time, extremists killed a pastor’s son, and two weeks later a pastor. Beginning at 10 p.m. April 15 and raging through the night, Fulani herdsmen attacked a mainly Christian village, killing 33.
BENUE: Fulani killed more than 60 villagers between March 1 and April 1 in various attacks. Then, the first week of April, Islamic terrorists killed 134 Christians.
PLATEAU: Fulani and other terrorists killed a pastor, his two sons and six other Christians in March. Over 11 days of attacks in mid-April, terrorists from that unreached people group murdered 18 and wounded dozens in 11 mainly Christian communities.
BORNO: Islamic extremists killed a pastor the first week of April.
NASARAWA: From April 16-19, Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists attacked Christian villages, burning more than 85 homes and killing 12 people. (See MorningStarNews.org.)
Although Nigeria is a mostly Christian nation, of the 5,621 Christians martyred worldwide last year, 90 percent (5,014) were killed in Nigeria due to the terrorist acts of Boko Haram and Fulani militants. The most abductions (4,726), sexual assaults, forced marriages, home and business attacks, as well as mental and physical abuses against Christians also occurred in Nigeria, which is second only to China in the number of churches attacked last year. (See OpenDoors.org.)
Lord, we grieve together with our brothers and sisters who have suffered much. Please comfort them with Your love. Be a Shield around every Christian, church, home and village. Flood those places with Your angel armies. Don’t let the enemy win, Lord. Rise up and fight for Your people. Let their persecutors see Your angel armies larger than life, like giants looming over them. Grip those terrorists with terror and bring them to their knees in fear of the Lord and repentance. Make Your love rise up within every grieving believer like a mighty flood that flows out in forgiveness for those who have abducted and slain their loved ones. Let their persecutors experience that love in such a raging storm of glory that they weep with regret for their grievous sins, beg You for mercy and choose salvation. Haunt them in their dreams. Get up in their face throughout the day. Each time they scheme something evil, rip apart those plans before they ever come to be. Be so loud, O Lion of Judah, as You roar in the face of the enemy, that his attempts to cause harm will be like kitten’s play, swatted down by Your mighty hand and crushed beneath the blows of Your everlasting arms. Deflate every terrorist gang, tribe and army. Dry up their funds. Make their names known so publicly, both police and military forces easily hunt them down and put an end to their reign of terror. And grow Your church, O God. Fill every Christian with so much love, peace and joy, people will travel from miles around to come to their churches and hear the Good News preached. May this be the year that thousands come to faith, Lord. May this be the year the violence stops and love and freedom reign. Awaken all of Nigeria to Your love. Give every heart such a fervent hunger for You, they seek You until they find You. Break the chains of spirit worship and Islam, Lord. And point every eye to You. Heal those who are injured. Restore the broken-hearted. Make right what has been done wrong. And bring forth a mighty move of Your Spirit all throughout the land with thousands coming to faith. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
