Two mass shootings in two days have left Serbia in shock. The nation had just begun three days of mourning after a 13-year-old shot nine people and injured seven at a school in Belgrade on Wednesday, when yet another mass shooting occurred Thursday in Dubona, just 26 miles south, killing eight and wounding 14.
Lord, please comfort those who mourn and bring an end to the shootings. Heal the hearts and minds of survivors. Release them from traumatic memories and comfort them with Your love. Bring Christians to them to love them, counsel them and share Your Good News. Awaken Serbia to You, O God. Please guard every youth from going the way of the world. Raise up a generation of passionate followers of Christ who will love others with all Your heart and lead their nation in Your good paths. Use this terrible tragedy to bring families closer together, longing for a better, more meaningful way of life. About 80% of Serbs adhere to Eastern Orthodox traditions, while less than 1% of the population is evangelical. Lord, You know every heart. For those who don’t yet know You, please give them a deep hunger for You. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are and surrender to Your love. Draw them into loving churches grounded in truth. Make a way for the one Jewish and five Muslim unreached people groups in Serbia to hear the Gospel in a way they can easily understand. Set them free to know You and to spread Your love to the nations. In Your name. Amen.
