Since early this year, growing crowds of now tens of thousands have taken to the streets almost daily in Israel, protesting against judiciary reform. From sundown today to sundown tomorrow, the nation will celebrate its annual Memorial Day, Yom Hazikaron יוֹם הַזִּכָּרוֹן, commemorating those who died for freedom. Pray God will open their eyes to recognize the One who died on their behalf, the Just for the unjust, so they can truly be free. Romans 5, John 3:16.
Lord, as voices on the left and right cry out against one another, bring them back to You as their Center. The only One who is truly Just and whose Law is perfect. You promised that whether they head left or right they will hear Your voice behind them saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21. We claim that promise today as we pray. Lift the shroud that for 2,000 years has blocked the people of Israel from recognizing their Messiah. John 8:36. May every Jew hear their Messiah calling out to them now, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father, but by Me.” John 14:6. Even though this people You once chose as Your own rejected — even crucified — their Messiah, we ask You to have mercy on them now, please, Lord, and save them. Luke 23:34. As they study the scriptures, give them such powerful encounters with Truth they can no longer deny their Christ. Meet them as they dream at night, as they talk about You throughout the day, as they pray, and even now as they stand on the streets demonstrating for justice. O God, please remind them only Your way is truly just. Isaiah 30. No earthly government will ever satisfy their hunger for freedom. Only when they give up control to surrender to You will they find what they are looking for. Awaken every Jew to Christ. By Your mercy, love and grace, make Israel truly a people after Your own heart. In Christ’s name. Amen.
