30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening

Protestants seeking religious freedom settled in North America in the early 17th century. Since then, many notable movements of the Holy Spirit have arisen, including the recent Asbury Revival (one of many at Asbury over the years) and a Second Great Awakening in the late 1790s and early 1800s, which shaped so many aspects of life not only in this region but in other nations where missionaries have spread Christ’s love.
Today, the USA is home to the largest population of Christians in the world, as well as the greatest sending force for missionaries. Most recently, however, the pandemic and the effects of social media have contributed to a dramatic decrease in church attendance. In addition, with an influx of immigrants and refugees, pockets of unreached people groups have developed. Here are just a few we will pray for in the days leading up to the annual National Day of Prayer on May 4:

Prayer points to consider:
- Christian youth turning from faith
- Anxiety, depression, PTSD, abuse
- Pornography addiction, gender confusion
- Evil agendas among politicians and other leaders
- Increased corruption, crime, lawlessness
- Christians unjustly losing jobs or arrested for exercising religious freedom, including praying at schools and abortion clinics
- Cancel culture
Prayer starter:
God, we thank You for the many churches in North America and for the religious freedom enjoyed for so long. A battle is in play to restrict that freedom. Fight for Your people, Lord, and for the lost. Knock down every bill that is against Your purposes before it is made law. Remove from office those with evil agendas and raise up in their place influencers who love You and love the citizens of these countries. Restore godly values to culture, families, schools, businesses, media, governments and every individual. But most of all, Lord, restore Your church. Whenever Christians judge, manipulate or persecute, remind them to love. Set Your people free from distractions, addictions and strongholds that lead them astray. Raise up pastors and youth ministers, evangelists and worship leaders with pure, heartfelt commitment to Your purposes and love for Your people and Your Word. Disciple every Christian well, Lord. Break the chains of anxiety, depression, pornography, and anything else that keeps them from the abundant life that is theirs in You. Mend breaches in marriages. Restore unity in families. Heal hurts of the past. Move Your people to forgive and to love those who trespass against them. Make every Christian a beacon of light in the darkness, drawing the lost to You because of their love, peace and joy. Show young people and their parents who they are in You, and hold them fast in Truth. Awaken Your church, O God, to love like never before. Awaken the prodigals and bring them home. Awaken evil-doers to repentance. Awaken the lost to find You. Tear down every wall that has resisted Your truth, and set every heart free to follow You alone as King.
Parallel Prayer: Our 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening coincides with Ramadan. March 23-April 21, Muslims throughout the world are fasting and seeking God right now. Let’s pray they find Him!
Lord, please awaken the heart of every Muslim in the US and Canada. Give them courage to lay down their traditions and to brave whatever retribution comes upon them from family, mosque and community in order to seek You with all their hearts and find You. Bring loving, caring Christians into their path to show them what You are like and to share with them Your Good News. Show Christians ways to reach out to Muslim neighbors and grant those Christians favor. Raise up loving churches to come alongside refugees from countries like Afghanistan, Syria and Somalia to provide for their needs, help them learn English, share Your Good News, and love them into Your arms. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are. For those Muslims who are ashamed of the violence and terror so many who claim Islam adhere to, give them courage and wisdom to help prevent such attacks when they know about them, and to seek the God of Love, so that when they find You, they can share Your Good News with others in their community who also want peace, love and joy. For those who are involved in evil plots, Lord, stop them in their tracks. Appear to them in ways they will recognize You, and strike them with such fear of the Lord that they fall to their knees before You in repentance. In Your name. Amen.

Search the internet for recipes from the USA, Canada, Bermuda and Greenland. Invite your children to do research and share with the family for your prayer time together. Menu suggestions: Canadian poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds), Bermuda green bean salad, barbecue chicken or burgers (US), chef’s dream cake (Greenland)
