30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening
Verses for contemplation: Isaiah 42:10-35
Today, all of the countries in the Americas and Caribbean are considered majority Christian and enjoy greater religious freedom than many parts of the world. While the Catholic Church dominates Central and South America, evangelical churches have seen tremendous growth over the past two centuries through exciting movements of the Spirit or revivals, including a Great Awakening in the early 19th century.
Four of the countries in this region, however, have made it onto the list of most dangerous for Christians due mainly to persecution by cartels, local religions and Communism. Through Christians sacrificially loving and serving the most needy in the midst of terrible trials, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela have seen continuous revivals, while Mexico is growing strong churches that shine hope in the midst of much darkness.
Pray God will
- Bring dying churches back to life.
- Pour out His Spirit and love on all Christians.
- Bring us to repentance.
- Revive us in prayer.
- Bring home the prodigals.
- Give the lost a hunger for Him and save them.
- Anoint Christians as powerful influencers in all areas of life.
- Heal and set free those bound to strongholds and addictions.
- Empower youth and ministers to be a mighty force of love and evangelism.
- Send out Spirit-led missionaries from these nations to the lost.
Prayer starter:
Father, thank You for the millions of Christians and thousands of missionaries sent all throughout the Earth from this region. Please strengthen Your church, for hearts have grown cold. So many young people who grew up in the church are now walking away from You. Have mercy, Lord. Make deep, powerful discipleship available to every Christian. May they not only know Your Word, but live it. Raise up a generation holy unto You who will live set apart for Your glory. Break Christians free from the strongholds that have held them back from more of You. Give them courage to stand strong in the face of increasing persecution and secular values. Give them such abundant love, joy and peace that everyone who meets them sees the difference in their lives and is drawn to You. Bring home the prodigals. Strengthen Christian marriages and families. Protect children from abuse and harm. Appoint Christian pastors and counselors to help people to wholeness and freedom. Raise up influencers in government, media, the arts, schools, law enforcement and all walks of life who will live with such integrity, love, favor and even success that when they speak of You others listen. Bring down corruption and evil, and open the way for greater freedom to worship You. Awaken the nations of America and the Caribbean to You, O God. May Your name be praised from shore to shore and the islands rejoice in Your salvation.
Parallel Prayer: Our 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening coincides with Ramadan. March 23-April 21, Muslims throughout the world are fasting and seeking God right now. Let’s pray they find Him!
Lord, many Muslims have sought freedom from oppression and hope for a better future by moving to America. Come and exceed all of their expectations with Yourself. Bring them into contact with Christians who will love them and share Your Good News. Draw them into churches. Put Bibles and Gospel tracts in their hands that clearly show them the way to salvation. Give them a hunger to know You so fierce they will lay down their old ways of violence and hatred, and choose Love instead. Raise up Muslim-background Christians who will contagiously share Your love with the lost and bring forth a mighty movement of Your Spirit drawing thousands of Muslims to You in all the communities where they have settled in the Americas. Yes, Lord, we ask You for this. Awaken the Muslims of the Americas to Christ.
Dinner and a Prayer: Each day during these 30 days, we share with you ideas for special family prayer times, including a suggested menu to go with that day’s prayer theme. Today’s suggestions:
Choose your favorite recipes from the Americas and Caribbean. Invite your children to research several of these countries and share what they find as you gather together to pray and eat. Menu suggestions: arroz con pollo (chicken and rice), Nicaraguan ayote en miel (squash/pumpkin in honey)
