Day 7: Western Europe

30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening

Verses for contemplation: Psalm 85:6-7

Western Europe is the home of such renowned hymn writers, missionaries and preachers as Charles Wesley, Hudson Taylor and Charles Spurgeon. In fact, much of the spread of Christianity throughout the world in recent centuries began with faithful believers in this region who chose to carry the Gospel as missionaries to largely lost nations in Asia, Africa and beyond.

Today, Western Europe has seen an influx of immigrants from Islamic countries, while secularism continues to grow. (See our posts on the UK and a growing church there.) Let’s pray God will tear down barriers to the Gospel and bring forth a great awakening in Western Europe.

  • Jewish
  • Hindu
  • Buddhist
• Secularism, loss of biblical values
• Influx of refugees from Islamic countries
• Terrorist attacks

Prayer starter:

O Lord, please revive Your church in Western Europe. Awaken them to the power of Your love. Wherever believers burn with holy fire for the things of Your heart, make their love contagious. Spread Your Good News and the stories of Your miracles from person to person in marketplaces, in hair salons, in lodges, taverns, work places, on the streets and in every frequented place. Raise up influencers in every walk of society who love You with all their hearts and draw other people in to do the same. Pack churches full with seekers, Lord, and then show up in such powerful ways You leave everyone in awe of You and they can’t help but be transformed. Anoint preachers to speak truth in power. May thousands come to faith this year, and those who have strayed from You return to You on fire, lives wholly devoted to You. Father, so many refugees and immigrants have fled to these countries in recent years seeking safety from terrorism and oppression. Others cause terrorism in their new country. Please make a way for the Gospel to reach into every community in their own language and with a clear demonstration of Your love, hope and truth. Give the lost such a hunger for You they will lay down everything they have clung to and choose You as their Savior. Break through walls of religion, sin addictions and secularization to transform them so dramatically their families and all who know them will see and be saved. Awaken Western Europe to you, O God. Reach into every city, every home, every heart with Your love, and set the people free to worship You alone.

Parallel Prayer: Our 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening coincides with Ramadan. In March and April, Muslims throughout the world are fasting and seeking God right now. Let’s pray they find Him! 

Lord, please awaken the hearts of Muslims living in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Switzerland and United Kingdom. Set them free to seek You with all their hearts and find You. Connect them on the internet with Christian websites and churches in their area that are strong in You and can share with them Your Gospel in a way they will easily understand. Bring Christians to them to show them Your love. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are. Perform signs and miracles and wonders in their midst so they will not be able to resist Your love; and heal them, Lord, as they turn to You. Whenever a Muslim chooses to follow Christ, make the change in their life so drastic everyone will see their peace, love and joy, and choose You, as well.

Dinner and a Prayer: Each day during these 30 days, we will share with you ideas for special family prayer times, including a suggested menu to go with that day’s prayer theme. Today’s suggestions:

Search the internet to choose recipes to cook for dinner from the Western European countries on the map above. Invite your children to choose a missionary or other well-known Christian from this area, and share about their life and walk with Christ over dinner. Talk about barriers to the faith and challenges countries in this region now face. Then pray together as a family. Menu suggestions: croûte savoyarde (cheese toast, France), shepherd’s pie, German creamed spinach, Belgian chocolate
