30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening
Verses for contemplation: Ezekiel 36:25-29
In the first centuries after Jesus’ death and resurrection, Christians endured severe persecution and met mostly in secret. But when Constantine declared Christianity the Roman Empire’s official religion in 380 a.d., all that changed. “Christendom” spread throughout Europe and its leaders gained and retained political power long after the Empire fell. In the 16th century, courageous European believers endured much persecution as they fought against corruption and false doctrines (especially regarding redemption and grace) in the Catholic Church. From those early Protestants came a movement of passionate followers of Christ who spread His love throughout the world.
Today, quaint church buildings and glorious cathedrals add to the scenic charm of Europe. But vast numbers of churches have died and many of those still meeting are fraught with disunity, bitterness and dissension. Most young people who grew up going to church now do not attend at all.
Pray God will
- Pour out His Spirit and love, bringing churches back to life and shining His light in every dark corner of Europe.
- Tear down every evil plot of the enemy upon the church.
- Bring forth unity and understanding, forgiveness and healing, love and understanding, so that every Christian and church walks in oneness with Christ and each other.
- Bring home the prodigals.
- Give every lost person a deep hunger for Christ that will drive them to read the Bible and seek out Christians who can tell them the Good News in a way they can easily receive.
- Raise up Christian influencers in all areas of culture and life who will shine for Christ and draw thousands into His Kingdom.
- Heal and set free those bound to strongholds and addictions.
- Empower thousands of youth and ministers as passionate lovers of Christ to share His love far and wide, bringing forth a great awakening that spreads across nations and generations, including generations yet to come.
Prayer starter:
Awaken Europe to Your love, O God. Bring churches back to life. Restore the joy of their salvation. Strengthen their faith. Deepen their knowledge. Empower their witness. Pour out Your Spirit on every heart. When someone reads the Bible or prays, meet them in intimate ways. Let them hear Your voice, feel Your touch, see You moving and leading, transforming their hearts and setting them free from the things that have held them back from more of You. When they cry out to You, have mercy. Perform signs and miracles to reignite their passion for You as First Love. Bring home the prodigals. Raise up a chosen generation that will flood all of Europe and beyond with Your glory, praise and Good News. Anoint ministers and worshippers, young people, artists, writers, dancers, musicians, scientists, medical workers, politicians, lawyers, teachers, businessmen, influencers from all walks of life to awaken Europe to what matters most. Place into government those who care about their citizens and push forth Your purposes. Give every heart such a hunger for You they will lay down whatever they’ve been running after that is of this world and surrender to Heaven’s purposes instead. Restore Your church. Save the lost. Heal the broken-hearted. Set the captives free, and raise up a mighty army to carry Your light to the nations.
Parallel Prayer: Our 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening coincides with Ramadan. March 23-April 21, Muslims throughout the world are fasting and seeking God right now. Let’s pray they find Him!
Lord, please awaken the hearts of Muslims living in Europe. Give them a hunger to know You, and bring Christians into their path to share Your Good News with them in a way they can easily understand. Open up the prison doors of their hearts and set them free to choose You. Tear down every barrier that has stood in the way. Give Muslims courage to step away from tradition and run after You with all their hearts. Whenever they choose to follow Christ, make that change in their life so drastic everyone will see their peace, love and joy, and turn to You, as well. Be a Shield around those who convert from Islam to Christianity and protect them from persecution and harm.
Dinner and a Prayer: Each day during these 30 days, we will share with you ideas for special family prayer times, including a suggested menu to go with that day’s prayer theme. Today’s suggestions:
Search the internet to choose recipes to cook for dinner from countries in Europe. Invite your children to research those countries to find what kinds of things people might be running after that are not Christ, and then talk about those distractions. Menu suggestions: Svickova beef sirloin with cream sauce (Czechia), blitva (Croatian greens and potatoes), French crepes
