The death toll in southern Turkey and northern Syria from the February 6 earthquake is now upwards of 44,000. On Tuesday, rescuers freed nine more survivors from their rubble prisons. But now that it’s been well over a week, finding anyone alive is a miracle.
Today, I feel the Lord leading us to focus our prayers on the miracle stories — like Aya, the baby born in the midst of the rubble (Her name means “a sign from God,” by the way, and her aunt, who recently gave birth, will raise her.), … like child after child pulled unharmed from under mounds of debris, … like the people found alive this week. What miracles touched your heart most over the past week? Please share in the comments.
Father God, You so mercifully spared life after life in the midst of so much death and devastation. Thank You, Lord. For every person protected. For every miracle. For every man, woman and child who now has a new chance at life. As they speak praises to the one they call God, come and show them who You are. Give them such a hunger and thirst to truly know You, O God of Miracles, they will talk about You incessantly, seek You with all their hearts, and open wide to believe in the One who is Truth. You have divine purposes for each of these lives You saved. Bring forth Your purposes, O Lord. Shape their paths now, while they are homeless, displaced, wounded, hurting, without hope. Show them YOU alone are our Hope. Drive them into the places where they will meet You in deep, powerful, REAL ways. Where caring hands guided by You serve them and tend to their wounds. Where those who follow You with all their hearts share the Good News in a way they can fully understand. Where Your felt presence is thick and Your Spirit moves. Where they experience dreams and visions of You calling them into the life they were always meant to know, a life of feeling Your great love for them, loving You back, and loving others through Your love. Where those who bear Your name are filled with peace, joyfully sharing of their food and provisions to help this one in need. This lost sheep You are calling into Your fold. This one You purposefully rescued from death. This one You want to swoop up into Your arms and carry, whose wounds of body, heart, mind and soul You reach out to heal. This one You saved from the rubble. Save each one of these miracle recipients now from out of death and darkness into Your glorious light. For all eternity.
O God, there are those also who witnessed these miracles — rescuers, family members, passersby, others who didn’t see the miracle but heard about it or watched it on the news. Show them Your glory. Draw them to Yourself. Give them such a hunger for You they will seek You with all their hearts and find You. Rescue them from the pits the enemy has prepared for them, and save them for all eternity. Draw them up into Your arms, show them who You truly are, satisfy their thirst with Your love, and pour out Your grace in such abundant measures, they will not be able to resist Your love … and at last surrender to You — lives laid down at Your feet. To serve You as their One and Only. To follow the One who is the Way out of their prisons of darkness into eternal Light.
