At least 26 have died and more than 2,000 have been injured in fires raging across south-central Chile for more than a week now. Over 1,500 homes and nearly 900,000 acres of forests have been destroyed. Thousands of people have been displaced, while summer temperatures soar above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Volunteers have joined with thousands of firefighters battling hundreds of active fires, 90 of which are out out of control. Let’s pray!
Lord, please have mercy. Comfort those who grieve lost loved ones. Let them feel Your presence with them. When they cry out to You, hear them and answer. Through Your provision, salvation and love, make a way where there seems to be no way for lives to be rebuilt and families to find hope and peace. And please bring rain. Heal the land. Heal hurting hearts. Rescue those in danger. Cast out fear with Your perfect love. Protect firefighters as they seek to put an end to these fires. Be a Shield around them and give them wisdom to stay safe and do what it takes to block the fires from spreading. Protect homes, businesses, land, livestock and people from harm. For those who have lost much and fear for their future, when they cry out to You, O Lord, answer them in such a way that they know it’s You. Comfort them as they grieve. Show Yourself strong on behalf of those who are suffering. Provide the way for them to know You as Savior, Protector, Healer and more. Break down every barrier that has caused people to reject Your truth, and lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as You truly are. Make Your call to salvation clear, and give whole households courage to respond to Your call in faith. Send Christians to comfort and care for those in need. Multiply resources and open churches to house those who are now homeless. Send Christian counselors, doctors, firefighters, and aid workers to share Your love in the midst of such tragedy. Raise up churches to reach out to those in need and help rebuild people’s homes and lives. Use loving Christians’ peace, joy and compassion to draw the lost into Your arms. Use this fiery trial as a wake up call for thousands who have chosen to live the way of the world rather than follow Your ways. Awaken every heart in Chile, Lord, to Your love and truth. Show them You are their only Hope. Their Joy. Their Strength. Their Comfort. Their Life. In Your name. Amen.
