Let’s continue to pray for three Christians imprisoned in Mozambique. Here is their story and an update:
On November 4, a pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship, Ryan Koher met with two South Africans as they prepared for a routine flight to deliver vitamins and other needed supplies to orphanages trapped by ongoing jihadist violence in the northern part of the country. Police detained them on an accusation which soon escalated to “supporting terrorism.” Although no formal charges have been filed, they are being held in a maximum security prison during an ongoing investigation. Koher’s attorney continues to press for a dismissal of the case, or at least bail. MAF reports that US Embassy officials believe him innocent of all charges and have made his release a priority.
Koher’s wife Annabel was able to talk with him for a few minutes by phone last month. He shared with her that he has been “greatly encouraged by the global body of Christ praying and showing Jesus’ love during this time.” He shared how God has impressed him deeply with the need to be surrendered to His will, and referred to Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Cost of Discipleship, saying “Time is short, but eternity is long.”
Held mostly in solitary confinement, Koher has been able to eat breakfast in the main area each day with the two South African men detained with him, and they are allowed a period of time in the sun.
In a recent letter to his wife, Ryan wrote:
I’ve been praying a lot that the Lord would open doors to the Gospel here. I was able to stand up and share a “word” at the church service here. (They are letting us spend one hour a day out of the cell.) I encouraged them to be doers of the Word and not just hearers; and to obey the Lord through faith.
I was praying that I could share something at the service. It’s comforting to know that God knows the end from the beginning. It’s easy to get impatient and near-sighted. I love the verse you sent! (Ecclesiastes)
I finished reading through the entire Bible yesterday! It was an incredible journey. I am so thankful for Christ and the life He gives and the hope we have, the hope of Heaven has come into sharper focus through this.

Let’s continue praying for these three men, that the charges will be dropped and they will be able to return home soon. Pray also for their families who await their return.
