Mexico is one of the world’s most dangerous places for Christians. Cartels often target faithful believers for elimination because they speak out against their evil deeds. In addition, in rural indigenous communities, churches are often closed down by village leaders. Those who turn from traditional religious beliefs may face fines, imprisonment, forced displacement or, in today’s story, torture and possible death.
Last month, indigenous religious leaders tied María Concepción Hernandez to a tree and beat her severely because she doesn’t follow the local religion, Christian Global Relief reported on Facebook. She is now struggling for her life. Her pastor, Rogelio Hernandez Baltazar, was also beaten when he attempted to intervene. Their church in Hidalgo, Mexico, has been growing despite persecution.
Lord, please fight for María. Save her life. Heal her wounds, restore her health, heal her diabetes (which has made her condition all the more dangerous), and heal her mind and heart, Lord. Speak to her tenderly. Let her feel You near. Send her fear to flight through Your perfect love, and empower her to forgive her persecutors. Protect her, Rogelio and all believers in that village from any more attacks. Heal Rogelio, and flow through him to openly forgive their oppressors and share Your plan of salvation with them. Fill those who assaulted them with regret for their evil acts. Bring them to their knees in repentance. Break them free from the chains that tie them to demonic forces and false religion. Open their ears to hear You calling them to Yourself. Open their eyes to see You reaching out to save Your children from harm and to invite evildoers to salvation. Whenever they lift a hand to harm a Christian, step in the way, Lord. Let them see You and tremble. Tear down every barrier to the Gospel, break the chains of fear and oppression, and set the people of that village free to run after You. Make the love, joy and peace in Christians’ lives so evident, all their neighbors will hunger for You, and the entire village will choose You as Savior. Fight for Your children who are in danger all throughout Mexico. Protect them, strengthen them, provide for their needs, and embolden them to love, bless and share Your Word all the more.
