Open Doors reported yesterday on their prayer app that a father and son, former Muslims in Uganda who converted to Christianity, were attacked by Islamic extremists after leaving an all-night prayer meeting December 10.
Uganda has no laws against conversions. In fact, it is a mostly Christian nation. Persecution comes from Muslim communities who seek to terrorize.
“The story about our conversion circulated countrywide, and five days later, I started receiving threatening messages on my phone,” Abdu said. But the Christian teacher and his 23-year-old son, Hamisi, know the power of prayer. As they left for the prayer meeting that night, they took up their “shield of faith” and “sword of the Spirit.” Ephesians 6:16-17.
Two hours later, seven Muslim extremists showed up at their home looking for them. They forced Abdu’s wife to call and tell him she was sick so they would return home. When they arrived, their attackers met them in the street dressed in white, and proceeded to beat them, leaving them “half-dead and half-naked.” Abdu and Hamisi are still healing and afraid of what will happen next. They ask for prayer that God will heal them quickly and show them where to go. (See Open Doors’ prayer app for the full story.)
Father God, thank You for protecting Abdu and Hamisi’s lives, and Abdu’s wife, as well. Please heal them quickly and provide the way for them to move somewhere safe. Surround them with Your presence and peace now, Lord, and speak tenderly to them. Increase their faith and cast out all fear with Your perfect love. Empower them to forgive, Lord, and communicate that forgiveness to their attackers in such a way that they are struck with the joy, peace and love in their hearts so strongly they hunger for You. Meet them in their dreams and point them the way to salvation. Any time they seek to attack Abdu’s family or other Christians, open their eyes to see Your angels standing there guarding Your people. Strike the terrorists with terror of the Lord and bring them to their knees in repentance. Move through that entire Muslim community, striking people “blind” as You did Saul, and giving them such powerful visions of You they will give their lives to You and bring entire Muslim communities and people groups to You. Awaken every Muslim in Uganda to You, O God, and increase Your church. Raise them up to shine Your light with such power the darkness is eliminated and thousands turn to You and worship You alone as God.
