About 170 people have died in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, due to heavy rain and floods. In addition, about 30 have been injured and almost 300 homes destroyed. In South Sudan, hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by heavy flooding that has damaged around 16,500 hectares of cropland. In fact, more than 8 million people in at least 20 nations of west and central Africa have been affected by heavy rains these past few weeks, with an estimated 2.9 million displaced and half a million homes destroyed.
Father, please have mercy. Help those who are trapped and in need of rescue. When they cry out to You, answer them in mighty ways so that they know it is You. Provide shelter, food and clean water for those who have been displaced and others who are in need. Bring Christians quickly to their aid to show them Your love and to share Your Good News with the lost, praying for their healing and offering comfort to those who mourn. Provide so miraculously for those in need that they will know it is You and feel drawn to You. Give every person affected by these floods such a hunger for You they will seek You with all their hearts and find You. Bless Christians so abundantly they will gladly share of their provisions with those in need and use the opportunity to gently lift those who are hurting up into Your arms so You can carry them through this hard time. Father, Muslims in several of these countries have long terrorized Christians. Please use this time of need and suffering to turn their hearts from violence to humbly seek You. May they see Your love in the Christians who are sharing of their possessions with others, and feel drawn to You at last. Tear down every barrier. Lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as You truly are and surrender to You. Awaken Africa to You, O God. Awaken the lost to Your salvation, and those who are saved to more and more of Your love flowing through them. Multiply Your church by the thousands, Lord, and bring about a great revival in every nation. Bring from out of this tragedy something good and for Your glory. As You rebuild lives and homes and nations after the floods, and provide for those in need, may Your name be praised in every home and village. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
