To be Malay is to be Muslim. It is written into the constitution. Ethnic Malays who convert to Christianity from Islam break that law and face severe persecution. In fact, Muslims have been tasked with converting Christians to Islam.
Nearly ten percent of Malaysia is Christian, and although churches have had a measure of freedom to meet together and worship, they are not free to share the Gospel, especially with Muslims. The coastal Southeast Asian nation of almost 34 million is home to 181 people groups speaking almost as many languages and dialects. About 76 are yet unreached with the Gospel, most of those Muslims who make up more than half Malaysia’s population.
Reina heard stories about Jesus and was fascinated. When a local partner gave her a Bible in her own language, her fascination turned to faith. But she was frustrated by not being able to share her faith effectively with her illiterate husband and children. Then the partner gave Reina a USB stick with a complete audio Bible in her language, plus a PDF copy of the Bible and videos of the four Gospels. Now she is able to share Jesus with her family in a way they can understand.
Open Doors
Lord, we ask You, please, to save all of Reina’s family and use them as a powerful witness to bring others in their people group to faith in You. Protect them and every Christian and seeker of Christ in Malaysia from persecution and harm. Awaken the lost to the endless mercies of Your love. Give every heart such a hunger for You they seek You until they find You. Move the mindsets of Muslims, government workers, law-makers and enforcement officers to break open a pathway for true freedom of religion in Malaysia. Put into place leaders and laws that seek to bless their people, not oppress. When imams reach for the Quran, hand them a Bible, Lord. Make Your Word available in audible, visual and written form in every language spoken in Malaysia. Awaken that country to Christ. Put an end to hatred and evil, and bring forth a new era of love, light and freedom. Wherever there is abuse, shelter those in danger and get them to safety. Turn hearts bent on wickedness to repent and choose the God of Love instead. Raise up a generation of young people on fire for the Gospel, who will spread Your Good News and plant churches among every tribe and language, so that all will have the opportunity to hear the truth and be saved. Give courage to Your church in Malaysia, O God. Equip them with gifts from Your Spirit to bring about great acts of kindness, healings, miracles and answers to prayer that inspire deep faith in the One this life is for. Empower every Christian to know You in deep ways, to hear Your voice, follow Your lead, and walk out in the truth of Your Word every moment of their lives, influencing others to do the same. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
