Malaysia Landslide Buries Campers

A landslide pushed mounds of mud and uprooted trees atop the tents of sleeping primary school teachers and their families camping in the forest of Batang Kali, Selangor State, Malaysia on Friday. At least 19 people have died, including four children, and 14 are still missing.

Because of Islamic oppression, Malaysia is included among the 50 most dangerous countries for Christians.

Every ethnic Malay is expected to be Muslim, according to the country’s Constitution. Those who convert to Christianity break the law and run head first into severe pressure from their families and communities. Converts are seen as betrayers of all that Malay society values most. All non-Muslim religious groups are watched by the authorities, as are non-governmental organizations, but the greatest focus is on non-traditional Protestant groups because these groups are more likely to actively testify about their faith, which is illegal.

Open Doors

Lord, please rescue those in danger, heal the injured and comfort families who mourn. Bring Christians to their aid who will show them Your love in grand measures and share with them Your Good News so they can have hope in the midst of such tragedy. Give every survivor and their families such a deep hunger for You they will seek You with all their heart and find You. Lord, we ask You for a great awakening in Malaysia. Visit every person in their dreams. Speak to them throughout the day. Get Bibles into the hands of each person in their own language, especially in audio form for those who cannot read. Protect Christians and their families from persecution and harm. Change the laws and change the hearts of those who make the laws in Malaysia, so that every person has the freedom to hear the Gospel and choose You as Savior. Open up the way for those who truly want to know You, Jesus, to find You. Bring about such a great burden of hunger for righteousness and truth in the hearts of Muslims all throughout Malaysia that they will lay down their hatred and surrender to the One who is Love instead. Show them the truth of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Demonstrate Your love to them in such powerful measures, none will be able to resist Your kindness that leads to repentance. Perform signs and miracles and wonders in the sight of all, revealing not just Your power, but Your everlasting love. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
