Hindu Woman Finds Jesus

Ria* was born into a religion with elaborate rituals for worshipping as many as 330 million gods. But in the 1970s, she began a quest for truth, asking questions about other religions. At last, two years ago, God brought Maleah* into her life.

As the younger Christian shared Jesus’ love, Ria resisted at first, saying only when she was “good and ready” would she make the decision to leave Hinduism. But then her cancer returned. Maleah pleaded with the Lord for Ria’s life, and He gave her a dream that Ria would be saved. For months, the Christian faithfully took her Hindu friend for the necessary treatments, and during that time they spent many hours in extended conversation. Ria even came to love Maleah and her husband as her own “children.”

At long last, the dying woman asked, “So, how can I receive this salvation?” And there on her sickbed, with her faithful friend beside her, Ria invited Jesus to be her Savior. “I feel light. I feel clean,” she said, as tears of joy slipped down her cheeks.

A few days ago, Ria passed away peacefully in the hospital. Maleah and her husband spent time with her sons and extended family, singing songs about Jesus, sharing the good news and praying with them. “Today, we went to her cremation ceremony that started at her house and went on to the crematorium,” said Maleah. “Amazing thing is one of the extended family wants us to come and sing songs and talk about Jesus at her house. Pray that she will open her home soon! There were many rituals with the Hindu priest today. But those rituals are useless because Ria has already found salvation in Jesus! Also, her house helper and nursemaid who is a believer told us that Ria told her that when she recovered she wanted to be baptized. She was serious, and even without baptism she is in the arms of her Savior and Lord!”

  • Pray for Ria’s family to hunger for Christ. Pray they will eagerly ask Maleah and her husband questions about Jesus and open their doors wide to invite Him in.
  • Most of the more than 1.1 billion Hindus in the world have never heard the good news about Christ. Pray God will make the way for the Bible to be translated into all of their languages, and bring caring Christians to them to show them what Love is like.
  • Pray for dramatic conversion experiences among Hindus worldwide, especially extremists. Pray brahmanas, gurus and other promoters of Hinduism will hear Jesus calling them to Himself; meet Him through dreams, visions, miracles and other power encounters; forsake all other gods to serve the one true God of Life; and lead whole families, villages and people groups to faith.
  • Pray for a great awakening among Hindus all throughout the world, that God will give every heart such a longing for Him they will eagerly seek Truth and find Him. Jeremiah 29:13, John 14:6.
