With the war against Ukraine costing Russia an estimated $1 billion per day, little infrastructure is left to deal with winter’s brutality in the vast northern country, where temperatures stay below freezing for many weeks on end. Power outages, busted pipes and other heating failures are already costing lives and promising to far surpass last year’s frozen-to-death toll of many thousands. In addition, countless families face hunger, especially in already poor regions where fathers and sons who have been the sole providers were forced to die in war.
Lord of Life, please have mercy on Russia’s millions dying without hope under an oppressive regime that cares little for their lives. Reach into every home and warm it with Your presence. Step into every thought and dream, speaking hope, truth, life, healing, love and salvation. Satiate their hunger like only You can. Miraculously multiply the food stores of those who love You, and pour out Your love through Christians to help those in need all around them, sharing of the hope found only in You. Spark churches on fire for You, O God. Gather them and multiply them by the thousands. Make every meeting place for Christians a warm, inviting space for the lost to come in from out of the cold, bleak, dark emptiness they have known and find You. For You alone are the answer to their longing, Lord. The holes in their hearts are God-sized. Fill them now, O Bread of Life. Give every heart in Russia such a hunger for Your love they will seek You with all their hearts and find You. Jeremiah 29:11-13. Awaken the masses to Your goodness. Where they have been rejected, where they have been called “not My people,” draw them to Yourself now, chosen and marked by Your love. Write Your name upon their hearts and their names in Your Book of Life. Bring about a great revival in that country, drawing thousands upon thousands to true faith in Christ. Equip Your church to rise up in this time of death and darkness to breathe life, light and hope into every corner of the nation, reviving it by Your breath and warming it with Your embrace. Make a way for the 116 people groups still unreached with the gospel to hear the truth of Christ in a way they can easily understand. So many tribes are racked with poverty in addition to deep darkness. Please, Father, march in with Your armies of Light and overcome the enemy now. The true battle is not of earthly blood and violence fought over pieces of land. It is for the souls of the lost. Fight for them now, O Light of the World. Rise up and show them You are their only Way, Truth, Life. In Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
