Are you anxious about seeing certain family members during the holidays or encountering strained situations? Here are some helpful prayers:
Lord, please fill that whole room and house with Your presence and Your angels, and send the enemy out. Build a shield of protection around our time together and block any plans the enemy has to ruin it or break us apart. Protect our thoughts from imaginations against each other. Flow Your love and words of encouragement through me and the other Christians who gather with us, and open up conversations to share Your Good News with the lost. Soften the hearts that have been hardened toward You and lift the veil from their eyes so they will see Your love and long for Your touch. Guide every conversation in Your directions, Lord. Help us see each other through Your eyes and speak words of blessing and encouragement over each other. Guard all of us from any harm or sickness. And whatever You’re wanting to do, Lord, please do it. Show us how we can come in line with Your purposes, and make this a special memory for everyone there….
(If you’re especially anxious, …)
Lord, please show me where You will be in that room and what You will be doing and saying. Give me specific instructions on how to respond — or not respond — when attacks or other words are spoken that usually trigger my strongholds. Help me hold my tongue and get alone with You as soon as I can, even if that must be in the bathroom. Then show me where those feelings inside me come from and what lies I’m believing that cause them. And heal me, Lord. Set me free with Your truth. Take away my fear, and replace it with faith. For You are Good, Lord, and You are for me. You alone are my Protector. No matter how many walls I put up, I cannot protect myself. Only resting in You is there peace. Wrap me in Your arms now and fill me with Your love. Make me quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry. Give me courage to face what comes, with Your Spirit guiding my thoughts and reactions every moment. Help me bless those who persecute me and be a light in their darkness. Romans 12. Give me time to spend alone with You, Lord, and surprise me with Your love. Call me out on long walks with you, when the children are playing and cared for. Make the most of this time, Lord, and transform me. Show me the things You’ve been wanting to show me for a long time, but that I haven’t stopped to see. I trust You, Lord. Hold this time with family in Your hands; and especially, hold me…. In Your name. Amen.
