An Ebola outbreak that began in Uganda in September has resulted in at least 55 deaths, including six healthcare workers. Of the 141 deadly hemorrhagic fever cases reported, 15 healthcare workers have been infected.
This summer, more than 200 people died of hunger in Uganda. Meanwhile, nearly 70,000 refugees from Democratic Republic of the Congo and more than 33,000 from South Sudan have poured into the country this year.
Uganda is a mostly Christian nation, with three Islamic and two Hindu people groups still unreached with the Gospel, and several tribes still enslaved to spirit worship.
Lord, please stop this plague in Uganda, and prevent it from spreading to other nations. Shield healthcare workers from infection. Give them wisdom, resources and strength for the task. Add to their numbers Christian doctors and other medical workers who will share Your love with the lost. Don’t let even one more person die without knowing how to be saved. Please also bless the harvests of farmers this year, and bring an end to the food shortage and high prices. Raise up Christians who will reach into refugee camps and share Your Good News with those who have never heard before. Turn tragedy into victory by drawing thousands of lost to faith in Christ. Please also raise up missionaries to reach into the unreached peoples of Uganda and spread Your light in their darkness. Awaken Uganda to You, O God. May the news of Your love and grace spread far and wide, drawing millions to You. Strengthen the churches with faith, hope and love, and ground every Christian in Truth. Tear down old traditions of animism and make the heart of every follower of Christ steadfast. Raise up missionaries from Uganda who are willing to cross borders and language barriers to reach into tribes that have never heard about Jesus. Make Uganda a bright light for Your glory in the midst of the deep darkness of many of the countries nearby. Bring about a church-planting movement that spreads all throughout Africa and beyond. In Your name. Amen.
