Despite agreeing to peace talks (which have been delayed), neither side has relented in the Tigray conflict. In fact, the Ethiopian army has taken over three main Tigrayan cities — Shire, Alamata and Korem. The war which began two years ago has left about 5.4 million people in need of humanitarian aid.
Ethiopia is listed among the most dangerous countries in the world, and many Protestant churches and Christians have been targeted with violent attacks in the midst of conflict. In fact, Protestants in Ethiopia face persecution not only from Muslim extremists but also from the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. In areas where Muslims or Orthodox Christians are in the majority, local officials may refuse Protestant or evangelical Christians permission to gather for meetings or worship.
Lord, please watch over Christians caught in the middle of all the violence. Surround them with Your angels and guard them from evil and harm. Provide for them a safe way to meet together with other believers in worship and Bible study. And provide for all their needs in abundance. Bring an end to the war in Tigray. Rescue those who are starving. Heal those who are wounded. Stop the persecution, the violence, the oppression. Open the way for help to get in to those who need it, and for peace to reign. Protect innocent children and families, Lord, and provide for their needs. Be a Shield around them, guarding their hearts and minds and keeping them from abuse, abduction and other harm. Give soldiers on both sides wisdom in every encounter, and open up the way of escape to families who need to flee dangerous areas. Abundantly bless the Christians in that region and make a way for them to minister to those in need. Multiply their resources in miraculous ways, and then use them to help bring aid to those who are hungry, wounded or sick. If danger comes near them, guard them with Your mighty angels, even visibly, so those planning violence will drop their weapons and flee. Psalm 91. Be great and mighty, O God. Make a way for persecution to end, violence to cease, and revival to grow. Awaken every heart in the Tigray region and all throughout Ethiopia to Your love. Make a way for every person to hear Your good news in a way they can easily understand. Lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as You truly are and receive You as their King. Only then will the issues they fight against cease so the Prince of Peace is invited to reign in their hearts and in their land. We ask You for a miracle, Lord. For Your church to grow by the millions, for those bent on evil to lay down their agendas and surrender to You, and the whole country to turn to faith in the One True God. In Your name. Amen.
