The Ethiopian government and warring forces from that country’s Tigray region have agreed to accept an invitation from the African Union to participate in peace talks this weekend in South Africa. The two years of relentless violence have cut off the six million people in Tigray from needed food, medicine, fuel and other aid deliveries, causing a rise in malnutrition and hunger, not to mention thousands of deaths and millions of families displaced from their homes.
Lord, we thank You for this answer to prayer, that after two years the opposing sides have finally agreed to talk about peace. Please, Lord, give wisdom to those who are helping to mediate and also to the leaders of the Ethiopian forces and the Tigray rebels. Bring an end to the violence and make a way for aid and other needed help to enter that region. Have mercy, O Lord, on the millions who have suffered through this war far too long. Guide the talks and bring them to a unified and peaceful end that will benefit all those in need in Ethiopia. Move the hearts of officers, political leaders, soldiers and others who have killed so many into a place of deep regret that leads them to repentance and to seek Your forgiveness. When they cry out to You, hear them, Lord, and transform their hearts. Then use them for Your glory to bless the nation, not oppress. To love, not hate. To bring life, not death. For You alone are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Open the way, Lord, for Christians to be able to go into that Tigray region and bring Your comfort, love, counseling, healing care, medicine, food and other aid, but most of all Your good news, for still so many have never heard of Your perfect love that casts out fear. So many are still bound to evil spirits and false beliefs. Share with them Your truth, Lord, in a way they can easily understand, and save them. Awaken Ethiopia and all of Africa to the unending depths of Your love, and bring about a mighty church planting movement in Tigray with millions turning to faith. May every heart know beyond any doubt that You alone are God, and You alone are good. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
