This weekend, Burkina Faso fell to its second coup this year. In fact, six coups in two years have rocked West Africa and surrounding countries, mostly due to pervading poverty, hunger and uncurbed violence by Muslim extremists, warring tribes, and national militia.
These coups have yet to “fix” the problems of West Africa, and as I sought the Lord today for how to pray, I felt Him saying:
“I’m still in control. No matter who sits on an earthly throne, My Sovereignty never changes. As others use earthly weapons to gain power through earthly wars, I remain ALL-Powerful. The weapons I call you to are not of this world, but for eternal purposes. To see My kingdom come. To join with Me in what I’m doing in the hidden moments the world does not see. The moments where My people, in the midst of fear and anguish, surrender to My hand, able to face whatever comes knowing I am with them. The moments when those who have chased after other gods suddenly realize I am the One they were looking for. That I alone can bring LIFE in the midst of death. The moments when those bent on evil feel sickened by their sin and lay down their weapons of violence to surrender to Love instead. The moments that can change a life, and even a nation — those are the moments I am calling you to pray for.”
