After the death of a woman convicted of not wearing proper attire, protests have erupted all throughout Iran these past two weeks. An unknown number of people have been arrested and dozens have died. Unrest has also occurred along the border with northern Iraq, where Iran targeted Kurds, and killed at least nine, including civilians.
Iran is ninth on the World Watch List of most dangerous countries in the world for Christians. House churches are often raided and members sentenced to long jail terms for “crimes against national security.” Muslim leaders see Christians’ ability to communicate with Jesus as a contradiction to Islamic teaching that He was merely a prophet. Those who teach the Bible or share their faith can be accused of “insults … with the intent to cause violence or tensions.”
Lord, please take down those in power who oppress, and raise up leaders who will bless the people instead, bringing freedom to that country, especially freedom of religion. Wrap Your arms around those who are injured, imprisoned or mourning loved ones who have died, and let them feel Your comforting presence and know it is You. Meet them in dreams and visions with Your arms open wide, inviting them to salvation. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are. Give them a hunger so deep for Love and Truth that they search for You with all their hearts and find You. Guide them to Christians, Bibles, websites, social media or other sources where they can find the answers to their questions about You. And awaken every heart in Iran to Your love. Tear down walls of religion, tradition, fear, prejudice and persecution, and bring forth Your kingdom in every village, town, city, home and heart.
A movement of Your Spirit has already begun in Iran, with many people turning to faith, often because of their disillusionment with Islam. Use this unrest to bring about all the more conversions. Multiply Your church by the tens of thousands this year, Lord. Hide house churches and Christians from those who seek to do harm, but open the doors to those who long for You and want to be saved. May Your Kingdom come to every heart in Iran. Whenever someone raises a weapon against a Christian, cause arms to freeze, weapons to misfire, tongues to mute, and angels to visibly and gloriously appear as guardians for Your bride. Strike persecutors with such fear of the Lord, they will drop their evil agendas and inquire about You instead. Anoint believers to speak the truth in love, even when facing great danger. Move their hearts with forgiveness toward those who rage against them. May their faith, hope, love and purity shine so brightly everyone around them will be struck with awe and place their faith in You.
