This past weekend, a boat carrying about 100 Hindu pilgrims in northern Bangladesh capsized, killing at least 41 people. Let’s pray for this South Asian country still recuperating from vast flooding this summer.
Bangladesh is listed among the world’s most dangerous countries for Christians because of intense persecution by Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist extremists. Pastor Swapan, whose Christian church/orphanage was viciously attacked by Hindus one night, said, “We have been enduring and praying for God to protect us.” More than 90% of Bangladesh’s nearly 171 million people are unreached with the gospel, among them 289 people groups.
Lord, please comfort those who grieve. Bring loving Christians to them to not just speak Your truth, but show them what a difference You want to make in their lives. Make a way for every lost person in Bangladesh to hear Your good news. Break the chains that bind them to false gods and demonic forces. Pierce through the prejudice, rage, violence and all manner of evil with Your love and truth, and set them free to worship You alone as God. Visit them in their dreams. Show Yourself to them in visions. Place in their grasp Your Word in a language they can easily understand. Give them a deep, deep hunger for more in this life, for the love, joy and peace only Christ can give, and set them on a quest to seek You with all their heart and find You. Awaken Bangladesh to You, O Lord. Break down the barriers of government and religion, and open up a corridor for Your gospel to spread into every village, home and heart, setting the people free from sin and death forever. Protect every Christian and church from persecution or harm. Don’t let any violence, sickness or abuse come to them or anyone in their family. Bless them abundantly so they can bless others, and shine through them Your love and grace. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
