As Ian barrels toward the Carolinas, at least ten are confirmed dead in its wake so far, and about two million are without power. As we pray for those in Florida, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Canada and other areas hit by hurricanes Ian and Fiona, let’s also remember those in Vietnam cleaning up after Typhoon Noru, which killed at least eight in the Philippines; and Japan, recovering from Typhoon Nanmadol.
Lord, please protect those yet in the path of Ian, and rescue all who are trapped and in need. Heal those who are injured, rebuild the lives of those who have lost much, and comfort those who mourn. But most of all, please, Lord, give every heart a deep hunger for You. When they cry out to You, hear them and answer them straight away. The things of this world are temporary, here today and gone tomorrow, but salvation is for eternity. Please give them a deep desire to know You and secure for those who turn to You a home for them in Heaven. Bring loving Christians to help them through these hard times and share Your good news in a clear way, making it easy for the lost to respond to Your message of grace and truth. Awaken all of these states and countries to Your love, O God. Awaken every heart to You. Provide the way for Christians to counsel those who have been traumatized and for churches to offer aid in such a way that the lost will see Your love in abundant measures and choose You as their Savior. Make these disasters a turning point in each person’s life who is affected, a turning from darkness to Your light. And plant churches in every neighborhood, Lord. Show Yourself strong on behalf of every person who cries out to You. Work miracles and signs and wonders in such a way that no one will be able to deny that You alone are God, and You are good. In Your name. Amen.
