Radical Praying

When we opened this Prayer Wall in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, God laid on my heart to call His people throughout the world to pray together daily for global awakening. Several months later, I happened upon Christian author/journalist Mike Evans’ claim that in 1986, evangelist David Wilkerson told him:

“I see a plague coming on the world and the bars and church and government will shut down. The plague will hit New York City and shake it like it has never been shaken. The plague is going to force prayerless believers into radical prayer and into their Bibles and repentance will be the cry from the man of God in the pulpit. And out of it will come a third Great Awakening that will sweep America and the world.”

Whether or not Wilkerson really said that is a question critics have raised, especially since he is no longer with us to answer. Regardless, we have indeed seen a worldwide plague that shut doors to churches and bars. New York City and the US government definitely have their share of troubles.

But has the pandemic forced prayerless believers into radical praying? Are we digging into the Bible? Are we crying out for repentance?

I want to see a new Great Awakening happen! In fact, we’ve been praying for that daily for more than two years now here at the Prayer Wall, and it is indeed happening in some pockets around the world, especially in Muslim nations. Let us not grow weary in prayer!

Lord, we ask You for a Great Awakening all across this nation and the world. Awaken every heart to Your love and truth. Call us into Your Word and into radical prayer that pulls down mountains with a single seed of faith. Let our cry be for repentance. May every heart, every home, every nation, every tribe, every language hunger to know You so desperately we will seek You with all our hearts and find You. We are all such sinners, Lord. Set us free from the chains that have bound us to sin and wrong thought patterns, and bring us back into the love, joy and peace that come from right relationship with You. Galatians 5:22-23.

For those who have never heard Your name, Jesus, make Your name known now. Meet them in their dreams. Bring Christians across their path to show them love. Get up in their face, so close they can see the never-ending flame in Your eyes burning with boundless love. Invade their space. Let them feel You there with them, closer than their skin. Be their Safe Place, where they freely lay down all their anxious fears and rest in the security that comes from fear of the Lord. Tear down every idol. Shake the things this world has stood upon that are not You. And speak, Lord, so loudly there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind that You alone are God and You alone are Good. Psalm 29 says Your voice is “powerful.” It breaks the nations, and shakes the earth. Show Yourself strong. Let no one say Your arm is too short to save. Reach into every home and every heart to heal those who are hurting, restore what has been lost, and save those who have not yet believed.

Strengthen Your church. Give us courage to stand in the face of persecution. Bring the downfall of evil governments, and open the way for peace, especially in the lives of those who have only known abuse, oppression and war. Teach us how to pray for our neighbors, both near and far. And bring forth a mighty revival all across this earth. Tear down every wall that has been raised up against You. Set captive hearts free. And usher in a new era of openness to the Gospel like never before. Meet every heart right where they are. Flood them with Your truth, grace, and love, so they will know without a doubt that You are the One they’ve been looking for. May they fall to their knees in worship, receive Your salvation, and follow You alone. In Your name. Amen.
