Rise Up and Love

What are some things you’ve settled into over the years that have become a habit because you were afraid or felt you needed to protect yourself from something or someone? Or maybe you felt inconvenienced by what God was asking you to do and talked yourself out of it and into that habit that feels more comfortable or “fitting” of your personality? Or maybe you tried to step out in God’s way but it didn’t turn out the way you thought it would, so you settled into man’s way instead? Or your own way? Or even no way at all? Just nothing. You settled for nothing, when there was so much more God was calling you to.

Jesus said to all, “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

Luke 9:23

What is God calling you to that you have left aside to do nothing instead? Nothing of eternal value, anyway. What have you spent your time on that has dulled your spiritual senses and drained your soul just so you could make a buck or be entertained or “feel alive” … when all it did was deaden you to the One who is Life and steal from you the abundant life Life Himself was offering you? John 10:10, 14:6.

Jesus is saying to you now:

Lay it down, My beloved. And come. Follow Me. When did you fix your eyes on the storm and back away from My outstretched hand? All you had to do was look at Me, hand in Mine, and we would have walked on that water together. But now, you’ve spent years trying to avoid the storm, when to the storm, I am the Storm. To you, I would have been your Peace. (Matthew 14:22-33, Luke 8:22-25)

If you love Me, you will obey My commands. (John 14:15) So, rise up now, My little one of little faith, and love Me. (Matthew 22:37-40). It is never too late to begin anew. For great is the One within you, and I will always have something new I am calling you to do together with Me.

But remember, first of all, your highest calling is to oneness with Me.”

Spend some time in prayer today, laying down those habits and choices that keep you from the more you were created for. And come. Rise up. And follow your King.
