Tragedy and Hunger in Afghanistan

Flash floods in eastern Afghanistan killed dozens on Sunday. Only last week, more than 30 died in the north from flash floods, and dozens more are missing. An estimated 90% of Afghanistan’s households don’t have enough food to eat; many die of starvation and malnourishment daily, especially children. And on Wednesday, a suicide bomber killed at least 21 people and wounded more than 3o, including children, at a mosque in Kabul.

These are just a few of the latest headlines from this most dangerous country in the world, where Christians, women, and even Muslims are persecuted and terrorized by Islamic extremists. In fact, today’s nearly 100% Muslim Afghanistan is considered 100% unreached with the gospel of Christ. That means almost no one in that country has heard the truth of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection that brings salvation.

Lord, have mercy, please. Make a way where there seems to be no way for every person in Afghanistan to know of Your love. Invade their dreams each night. Visit them in visions throughout the day. Open up the internet for those with phones or other means of access. Make a path for Christian aid to enter the country and Christian doctors to tend to the hungry, sick and injured. O Father, bring help. Have mercy, please, on the thousands who are dying without the chance to know of Your great love. Break those who are terrorizing their country. Flatten them with fear of the Lord. Force them to open the way for Your good news to enter so that every heart will hear and be saved. As hungry as people are for food, O God, make them all the more hungry for You. Provide a way out for them, so they can escape terror, starvation and death, and meet the One who is Life instead, satisfied forever with Your love, protection and peace. When they seek You, meet them in extraordinary ways. Provide manna from Heaven, both spiritual and edible. May they meet the Bread of Life, receive Your salvation, and spread word of You throughout the land. Turn what the enemy has meant for great evil into a pathway for every heart to find eternal life through Christ. We ask You for a great awakening in Afghanistan, with every heart turning from death to Life. Forever.
