At least 41 have died, among them 18 children, and about 14 were injured, when an apparent electrical fire broke out during Sunday morning mass at a church in the Imbibe neighborhood of greater Cairo.
Egypt is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for Christians. “If someone is willing to kill me for my faith, my God must be powerful,” said Sara, who was attacked at knifepoint by a Muslim extremist, declaring, “Dirty Christian, die!” (See Open Doors.)
Lord, please comfort those who mourn, and heal those who have been injured. Let them feel Your arms around them drawing them up into Your peace and carrying them through this terrible tragedy. Strengthen their faith. Drive them to the Bible to receive the words from Your heart for them. O God, please be a Shield around every Christian and church in Egypt. Protect them from persecution and harm. Deepen their faith. Strengthen their love. Empower them to share Your good news with the lost that You bring to them to love. For those who are in the midst of persecution, please, God, be their strength. Surround them with Your angel armies to fight against Satan’s plans. When their persecutors try to harm them, open their eyes to see Your angels, drop to their knees in repentance, and surrender their hearts to You. Multiply Your church in Egypt by the thousands. Give every lost person a deep hunger for You that drives them into churches and onto the internet looking for Christians to tell them how they can be saved. Make a way for ever person among the 24 Islamic unreached people groups in Egypt to hear Your good news in a way they can easily understand. Meet them in their dreams. Speak to them throughout the day. Awaken every heart, family, home and community to Your love. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
