My husband and I lived many years in one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Even though we were there loving and helping people, the government saw us as a political threat because we serve a higher King. They followed us, opened our mail, tapped our phones, sometimes searched our rooms. At any moment, we knew we could be arrested. Although the reason for the current persecution in the US of those seen as a political threat is different, let’s pray. Our nation is headed down a dark and dangerous path.
Lord, we ask You, please, for mercy on this nation. Make our country a safe place for our children to grow and learn and build their lives. Bring down those with evil agendas and place into leadership those who will bless our nation, not oppress. Be with those right now who are locked away for treason, while true treasonists are allowed to go free; and with those whose property has been confiscated and homes searched. Let them feel You near. If they do not yet know You as Savior, draw them into Your arms to be saved. Put Christians in their path to pray for them, to counsel them, and to share with them the only Way. John 14:6. Give them a hunger for You. Use this trial to urge them to humility and to seek You for help. And then answer them, Lord. Give them words to speak in the face of opposition and actions to take that will reverse evil agendas and bring down those who persecute for selfish gain, for power, for destructive agendas, and always for money. Block the paths and plans of those bent on evil. Block bills and laws that go against Heaven’s. Block investigations that frame. Vindicate those who are wrongfully accused. And bring forth Your purposes, Lord. Meet every lost person in government in such powerful, personal ways they will lay down their agendas and follow Yours instead. Lift the veil from their eyes so they see You as You truly are. Break the chains that bind them to enemy purposes, and set them free to serve the Sovereign One, the loving God who wants to bless this country and offer us hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11-13. Give every citizen in this country such a yearning for something better, we will rise up as one and cry out for what is right. Awaken us to You, Jesus. For You alone are the Way, the Truth and our Life. May we seek You with all our hearts and find You at last. For only You can give us a future worth fighting for.
