Civilian deaths have risen by the thousands since a military coup early last year, adding another layer of horrific violence atop an ongoing civil war that began 74 years ago in Myanmar. In the last few months, soldiers have burned down entire villages, torturing and killing men, women, children, and even the elderly.
Lord, so many lives have been lost. Please protect the innocent. Be a Shield around those in danger. Make a way for the violence to end soon, and for the people of Myanmar to at last live in peace. But most of all, Lord, awaken every heart to You. So many of the reports of murder and torture are so horrific, we beg You now for every violent offender. Please break the chains that bind them to demons of lust, cruelty, death and violence. Set them free to hunger for Your love instead. More than ten thousand have already defected from the military and police, Lord. Please convict thousands more of their evil crimes and draw them to repentance. Lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as You truly are. Haunt their dreams, talk to them throughout the day. Destroy the darkness with Your light. As they go to do their evil acts, assign Your angel armies in front of them to block the way and fight for the innocence of young women, the future of the children, the welfare of the elderly and the hope of the youth. Make a way for every person in Myanmar to hear of Your great love in their native languages, especially among the 52 unreached people groups. Don’t let even one more person die without having heard the good news so they can be saved.
For decades, Christians have been persecuted in Myanmar, many of them tribal peoples. Please be a Shield around them, protecting them from harm, whether from the military, Buddhist extremists or any other source. Use them as a blessing and a witness to those around them who daily live in fear. May their faith, hope and love draw thousands into Your Kingdom. Provide for their needs so abundantly they will also be able to abundantly share with others. Give them favor with those around them. Protect and hide from the enemy every Christian seeking to serve and aid orphans, refugees and others in dire need. Prosper every act of kindness and open wide the hearts of those they help, filling them with a thirst for Your love. Be a Safe Place for the people of Myanmar. Whenever someone cries out to You, Lord, rescue them from harm and pull them into loving circles of Christians who will teach them about Your truth and love, pray for them, and guide them into Your healing arms. Get Bibles into the hands of those who are starving for Your love, and set them free through Your mercy and grace. May thousands step into Your kingdom this year, pushed into Love’s arms by the pain, fear and evils of this war. Bring Christian counselors to help the many who suffer from trauma. And don’t let us forget the people of Myanmar, Lord. Bring them to mind constantly, so we will continue joining with Your heart in asking for their salvation and freedom in Christ.
Myanmar is ranked as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for Christians by Open Doors’ World Watchlist. Keep praying here and here.
