Earthquake in the Philippines

At least five have died and 130 others were injured Wednesday in an earthquake near the town of Dolores, on Philippines’ most populous island of Luzon.

Philippines is home to 90 unreached people groups who have yet to hear the good news of Christ. Most are indigenous tribes that live in fear of evil spirits; others adhere to Islam.

Lord, please comfort those who mourn. Let them feel You near them, holding them through this. Speak to them tenderly, Lord, and deepen their faith in You. Please bring Christians to them to offer food, water and shelter, and to help them rebuild their lives, not just because of the material things they have lost, but to draw them into Your arms, Lord. May they see Your love in these Christians and hunger for You with all their hearts. Empower believers to share Your good news during this difficult time, offering hope to those who have lost it, and faith to those who are afraid.

Father God, about 5.6 million people in the Philippines still don’t know about Jesus’ sacrifice. They live in fear of evil spirits not knowing about the Savior who loves them and has already conquered the enemy. Others think they know You as Muslims, but without Christ they cannot be saved. Only He is the Way, Truth, and Life. John 14:6. Please call out Christians with a burden for the unreached who will cross political, language, geographical, religious, cultural and all other barriers to take Your good news where it’s never been before and translate the Bible into languages that still need to know of Your love, grace and salvation. Make a way for every heart to hear the Word spoken in their heart language. Don’t let even one more person die without the opportunity to choose You as Lord of their life. Awaken every heart to You, O God. Awaken Your church to love beyond barriers. Awaken parents to raise their children up in Your love. Awaken youth to live with purity and a passion for You. Awaken pastors to preach with the power of Your Spirit. Awaken the nation to truly live as Your Word and Love commands. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
