Dozens of fires have ripped across areas of Portugal, Spain and France, and thousands of people have evacuated, with about 26,000 acres already destroyed. Some of the hardest hit areas include about 7,000 acres each in Leiria, Portugal, and Gironde, France, as well as more than 12,000 acres in western Spain between Extremadura and Salamanca.
Lord, please bring rain to stop the fires. Shield those in harm’s way, and comfort those who fear for their families, property and livelihoods. When they cry out to You, answer them in such a way that they will know it’s You. Open up churches and Christian homes to take in needy families, help provide for their needs and share Your love. Keep firefighters safe, and give them wisdom, endurance and strength in the battle.
In the midst of such tragedy, Father, please awaken Europe to their need for You. Show every heart how fleeting the things of this world are, but how enduring Your love. Remind them of what they were created for: to know You, to enjoy Your great love for them, and to love others through Your love. So many hearts have closed themselves off from You. Please open them now, Lord. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are. Where they have sought money or success in the past, may they now willingly lay down every vain pursuit and surrender to You as Lord. With the tendrils of Your love, O Vine (John 15), dig into their walls against You and crack them in strategic places, deeper and deeper, ever constant, widening every crevice and joining it with others until every wall crumbles to the ground at the force of Your relentless love.
