When three teen girls mistakenly drove off a boat ramp into the Pascagoula River in Mississippi last weekend, 16-year-old Corion Evans saw them and dove in to save their lives. A police officer also showed up to help, but soon needed saving himself.
“Four times he went in that water fighting to save those individuals,” Corion’s mother Marquita Evans wrote on Facebook. “I’m so proud of you, son, for not giving up.”
“I was just like, ‘I can’t let none of these folks die,'” said Corion.
“This is what courage looks like, what selflessness looks like, what God’s protection looks like,” stated a family friend, who helped set up a fund for Corion’s college.
Lord, thank You for this courageous young man willing to put his life on the line to save others. Thank You for the way you made sure he was there at just the right time in just the right place. For using him to rescue these three girls and the police officer. Please draw all five of them and their families close to You through this experience. Remind them that life is short and to make the decisions that count for all eternity.
Father God, our enemy has so many evil plans for our children. Even now, he is at work luring them into his dark traps. Rescue them, Lord. Bring Christians into their lives who will love them and challenge them to live for what matters most. Place a Bible in their hands and give them a hunger to read it. May they thirst for Your Living Water and seek Your ways all the days of their lives. Raise up a chosen generation that is passionate for Your purposes, strong in truth, courageous in love. And empower them to be history makers, changing lives through their radical demonstration of how walking as one with You is the only way to the peace, joy and acceptance this world longs for.
Empower us as parents to know what to do in each situation to help our children onto Your paths and to love them so fiercely, they too will love others with Your fierce love that protects, honors, and fights for others. Awaken us to join You in Your work of saving others. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
