Satanist Leader Resigns

Riaan Swiegelaar, co-founder of the South African Satanic Church, resigned from his position in May, shortly after an astounding display of unconditional love by Christians “when I was a monster.”

One couple showed him Christ’s love by responding to him with kindness and grace. And just after a radio interview, where the satanic priest announced, “I don’t believe that Jesus Christ exists,” yet another Christian walked over to him and hugged him. Overwhelmed to tears, Swiegelaar explained in a Facebook live video this week, “I’ve never experienced a Christian show that much love and acceptance unconditionally…. After I said the things I said, she did that. That stayed with me.”

The next week, as Swiegelaar performed a ritual, “Jesus appeared. I was extremely cocky and I said, ‘If You are Jesus, You need to prove it.’ And He flooded me with the most beautiful love and energy and I recognized it immediately because that woman at the radio station showed it to me. That’s how I recognized the love of Christ.”

In the video, Swiegelaar announced he will not join a church because of past hurts and judgment from church goers. He did not indicate whether or not he is studying the Bible, just that the information he is receiving comes from “conversations with God or the Divine.”

Lord, thank You for what You have done in Riaan’s life, how You took a man who was broken and cut through his chains of darkness with Your unconditional love. Holy God, there are so many others like Riaan — some may even be reading this post — who have bound themselves to darkness, not realizing You are the One they long for, that the holes in their hearts they try to fill with demonic “power” are God-sized. You are pursuing them even now, just as You did Riaan. Don’t let them miss Your invitation. Open their hearts wide to experience Your grace and surrender to Your love. For only in surrender to You as Lord will they find the wholeness, the healing, the freedom and the meaning they were created for. Call them out of darkness, O God, into Your glorious light. And save them. Show them there is no power greater than Love. 1 John 4:16, Romans 8:31-39. Only those who bow to the One whose name is Love receive the power that triumphs over evil. John 16:33, 1 John 4:4. So, awaken the heart of every prisoner of darkness, break the chains of sin and death, and set them free to walk in the Light. John 8:12.

Give Riaan a deep, deep hunger to read the Bible, for Your words are LIFE. John 8:31-32, 14:6, 15. Each time he opens Your Word, draw him to the passages You want to speak through and touch him so powerfully, bringing light into every corner once bound to darkness, that all lies bow and crumble before Truth, and You alone sit upon the throne of his heart. Bring to him Christians he can trust who love You deeply and disciple him in Your truth, showing him what it’s like to be the body of Christ together as one in You and with each other. Be a Shield around him. Make a holy perimeter, an enemy-free zone, where he can experience Your love, truth and grace without demonic interference, as he grows in his new faith. Heal all the broken places in his heart, and set him free from every stronghold to worship and serve only You all the days of his life.

God of Grace, we ask Your forgiveness for the times we Your church have been judgmental, attacking those who are broken and in need of You, rather than loving them into Your arms and showing them what grace looks like. Why is it those who condemn speak so loudly? Drown out the voice of condemnation, Lord, with authentic, Spirit-led love powerfully demonstrated by those who truly follow You. Galatians 5:22-23. Awaken Your church to truly experience and walk in Your truth and grace. May the whole world know we are Christians by our love. Disciple us to be light in the darkness, drawing people into Your kingdom through the same cords of kindness You used to draw us in. Set us free from strongholds of religious pride, legalism, judgment, control and condemnation. Show us how to lay down our opinions and judgments of others, and just love. Empower us by Your Spirit to look so much like You that others will see we have our Father’s eyes. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
