Three main issues hinder today’s missionary candidates from qualifying for overseas ministry, said a top leader of a large sending agency recently:
- Lack of a biblical worldview
- Addiction to pornography
- Mental health issues
Going to church just isn’t enough. We need to raise up strong disciples who walk in oneness with Truth. Who do not bend to the ways of the world or the lies of the enemy. Who are truly set apart to do the Father’s work, follow His lead, and let Him use them to make a difference in this lost and dying world. We must be prayer warriors who stand up and fight with all His might! Ephesians 6:10-20.
Lord, please equip churches and Christian families to stay strong in Truth, not bending to the world’s standards, but mentoring and discipling believers to walk out in Kingdom Culture, adhering to the Word and the model of Christ as our standard of living. Break the chains that bind us to worldly influences, and make us solely dependent on the meat of Your love, truth and guidance. For only You can satisfy us. Only You can make us whole. Make us thirsty for Your Living Water. Hungry for the Bread of Life. Passionate for Your purposes. So captivated by Your beauty, we dare not look away. So full of fear of the Lord that we dare not stray for fear of missing the blessing of Your felt presence. Come and meet us in the midst of our moments of weakness. Stand in the way of the enemy who seeks to kill, steal and destroy. Give us the strength to choose abundant life instead. John 10:10. For You alone are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. John 14:6. In You alone do we find our peace.
Raise up missionaries whose eyes are fixed on You, Lord. Begin in Your church. Begin in our homes. Disciple us daily from Your Word and Your Spirit’s leading. Set us free from the chains that bind us to enemy purposes. Fight for Your people. Our children are falling to the enemy’s schemes long before they have the ability or maturity to discern. Their minds are so moldable, Lord. Mold them to Yours. Give both us and our children the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16. Change the minds of pastors and leaders who have fallen to pornography. Remold their hearts to beat only for You and to influence everyone under their care to do the same. For those who have felt Your call to missions, but are bound to sexual addictions, O Father, fight for them. Show them the way to freedom from pornography. Give them such a fire for You blazing within their hearts and minds, that former temptations now repulse them to the point of no return. Rid Your church of this sin, O God. Rise up and shine Your light into every dark, shameful corner of our hearts, and cleanse us, Lord. We need You. Even those in leadership need Your discipleship, for they, too, have fallen into worldly mindsets instead of Your Heavenly viewpoint. They, too, have fallen to sexual sin. They, too, need freedom from the strongholds that bind them to pride, lust, anxiety, depression and so much more.
Lord, Your Word is more than powerful enough, Your salvation complete enough, the mind of Christ pure enough to set us free. We ask You now for freedom from anxiety and depression. Break the chains that bind us to the lie-thoughts that spiral out of control. Please, set our children free from fear. Teach them how to listen to Your voice and recognize Truth, so they don’t get caught up in lies and carried down wrong paths. Guard their hearts and bodies from every evil attack of the enemy. Save them by Your grace, and teach them to walk in step with You, so they can fulfill Your perfect purposes for their lives. Galatians 5:25. Guard our tweens from gender lies and temptations to follow what their friends on social media say or do instead of following You. Teach tween girls to fully receive Your unending love so they won’t seek acceptance in the wrong places. Give tween boys courage to fight for what is right and not go along with the crowd. Purify the hearts and minds of teens and singles to fix their eyes on You, follow Your lead, overcome lies with Truth, and rise up to be the men and women of God You created them to be, holy and set apart for Your glory, prepared for good works in Christ, and ready to fulfill Your calling to the ends of the Earth. Mend marriages, and raise up Christian families that will be beacons of light in the darkness, drawing all people to You. May they know we are Christians by our love and because You have set us free. And send out Your missionaries into all the world, empowered and equipped by the Almighty One who calls us. Thank You because whatever You call us to You are faithful to equip us for. We trust in You, Lord. May Your Kingdom come to the ends of the Earth. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
