What has God been calling you to do that you haven’t done yet? What has been holding you back? Do you feel afraid? Inadequate? Not gifted? That could be precisely why He’s calling you!
Quite often, the Lord has asked me to do things I have no gifting, experience, or understanding for, and I soon find myself sprawled at His feet, crying out, “Jesus, I can’t do this! You have to do it for me!”
And then He does. Because I was never meant to do it in my own strength or know-how in the first place. Proverbs 3:5-6, Philippians 4:13.
The privilege of God’s calling on our lives is not about how great or gifted we are. In fact, I AM NOTHING WITHOUT CHRIST.
How many failures does it take to finally get it? That He wants to empower us to do the things He calls us to. That we were never meant to do it on our own. That this is a partnership, a RELATIONSHIP. That we are strongest when we are weak, humbly surrendered to HIS strength flowing through us. That He wants to do this for me, in me, through me, around me, and even, sometimes — okay, OFTEN — despite me?
After years of encountering that scenario over and again, I’ve come to the conclusion that true obedience is only fully acquired by true humility: a constant, total surrender to and reliance upon the One who calls me.
Only the All-Powerful One can gift me with what I need to accomplish His purposes. Only the Head knows all the intricacies of what’s going on and what problems will arise that He plans to conquer in me or around me. Only the Sovereign One can execute the perfect plan. Only Love’s power can accomplish that which is of eternal consequence. Because only Holy God knows what He’s doing in every heart involved, especially mine.
One of my favorite quotes is from Rick Joyner’s The Call:
“You will always be unworthy for what I call you to do, but it will never be your adequacy or worthiness that causes Me to use you. You must not look at your inadequacy, but look to My adequacy. You must stop looking at your own unworthiness and look to My righteousness. When you are used, it is because of Who I am, not who you are.”
Today, take some time to pray and ask the Lord what’s been keeping you from walking out in the things He has called you to do. Ask Him to tear down every enemy lie with His truth, and give you the courage to surrender to His power working within you to accomplish more than you ever thought possible. Ephesians 3:20-21.
