Abductions in Nigeria

Just two days before the Pentecost Sunday massacre and abduction of Catholic worshippers in southwest Nigeria, armed kidnappers attacked a Baptist pastor’s residence in Kachia, taking captive his five children and demanding a ransom of $96,000 for their release, along with another elderly man.

Last month, a Methodist prelate was abducted in Abia State, but then released, along with two other pastors, once a hefty ransom of $240,000 was paid.

In April, nine people were killed and dozens kidnapped on a train headed north from Abuja.

These are just a few of the attacks taking place across Nigeria at horrendously increasing levels, mostly by Muslim Boko Haram terrorists and Fulani (one of the many Muslim unreached peoples of Nigeria).

  • Pray God will keep this pastor’s children, the other man with them, and every Christian who has been abducted safe from harm, and open the way for their escape and freedom.
  • Pray they will feel God’s presence with them, sing songs to Him, quote Scripture, and encourage one another in the Lord.
  • Pray those who guard them will listen in and be cut to the core.
  • Pray the Lord will command His angels to stand guard around the Christians, even making those angels visible to all who guard their escape.
  • Pray He will block any attempt to harm the Christians, and do it so miraculously those who seek to harm will tremble in fear of the Lord, purposing to let the Christians go free out of fear of what God will do if they don’t.
  • Pray God will empower grieving Christians and those still in shock from atrocities they’ve seen or their families have experienced to forgive and share God’s love in the face of persecution; that the joy and peace their persecutors and others see in them will draw many to faith in Christ, and the church will expand by the thousands.
  • Pray every terrorist involved in attacks against Christians will be brought to justice and the reign of terror will end.
  • Pray law enforcement will courageously pursue and capture terrorists. As they interview Christians to search out clues, pray they will encounter God’s love and be saved. Pray God will guide them to the criminals and give them instructions to entrap them and legally prosecute and sentence them in such a way they can no longer harm innocent people.
  • Pray God will be a Shield around every Christian, as well as their families, villages, and churches all throughout Nigeria, hiding them completely from the enemy so that no weapon will prosper against them.
  • Pray He will cast out fear with His perfect love, and Christians will rise up in the power of that love to counter hate, drawing millions to Christ through their witness.
  • Pray God’s Word will spread among all Muslims in Nigeria, and every heart will hunger for Him so desperately they will seek the Truth and find Him. John 14:6.
  • Pray all barriers that keep Muslim terrorists from the Good News of Christ will collapse, the chains that bind them to the evil one will break, every enemy plan will be thwarted, and they will surrender to God’s call to repentance and faith.
  • Pray every evil plot of the enemy will fall to the ground, and Christ will be glorified in each of these terrible situations; that for every Christian who is abducted, 1000 backsliders will return to Christ, and for every Christian martyred or injured, 1000 Muslims will come to faith.
  • Pray for a great revival among the churches of Nigeria, and a great awakening to Christ in every heart.
