Cease-fire in Yemen

In March we cried out to God for mercy here at the Prayer Wall, asking Him to intervene on behalf of the tens of thousands of children, civilians and others who daily face terror and death in the war-torn Muslim country of Yemen. After eight years of conflict, on April 2, a cease-fire went into effect. On Thursday, the truce was renewed for another two months by both parties. Although skirmishes have erupted over the last two months from time to time, Yemen saw a 50% reduction in daily civilian deaths during the first month of the original truce. That is a considerable breakthrough. Let’s praise the Lord and pray some more!

“The fighting in Yemen erupted in 2014, when the Houthis descended from their northern enclave and took over the capital of Sanaa, forcing the internationally recognized government to flee into exile in Saudi Arabia. A Saudi-led coalition entered the war in early 2015 to try to restore the government to power.

“The conflict, which eventually descended into a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran, has killed over 150,000 people, including over 14,500 civilians, and created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, pushing millions of Yemenis to the brink of famine.”

Lord, we praise you for this truce. What a direct answer to prayer! We ask You for all the more peace in this region. Please make a way for the Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government they seek to overthrow to come to an agreement that will end this war. Open the way for needed provisions to get to those who are starving and for medical aid to reach the sick and injured. Make the passageway safe for refugees to return to their homes and resume their lives, for crops to be planted and animals to be cared for. As prices rise and food sources dwindle, O Father, please have mercy on the millions in Yemen and nearby countries that depend on aid in order to survive. Make a way where there seems to be no way for the war to end in Ukraine and food sources to increase in that country and many others.

With this cease-fire in Yemen, we also ask You to please open up a channel for Your Good News to reach every heart in a way they can easily understand. Still so many Yemeni unreached people groups have never heard about Jesus’ sacrifice so they can be free. Father, don’t let even one more person die without a chance to respond to Your great love for them. You created each one for Your glory, God, to know You, to enjoy You, and to love others through Your love. Now, we ask You to please show Yourself strong on behalf of every Christian in Yemen. Empower them to preach Your Gospel boldly to their neighbors and family. Multiply Your church in Yemen and even across borders by the thousands. Protect every Christian and church gathering from persecution and harm. Provide for all their needs and bless them so abundantly — even with miracles of multiplication like You did with the loaves and fishes (Matthew 14:13-21) — they will in turn abundantly bless those all around them, drawing them out of darkness and into Your glorious Light. Break down every barrier to Your Gospel message, Lord, and bring forth a great awakening in every heart all across Yemen and beyond. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done both now and forevermore. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
