Thousands of people from the favelas (hillside shacks) in Pernambuco, Brazil, have been displaced; about 100 have died, and at least 14 are still missing after landslides Friday.
Loving Father, please rescue those who are trapped, heal those who are injured, comfort those who mourn, provide for those in need, and rebuild the lives of those who have lost so much. Do all these things in such a way that they will know You are the One who did that. When they cry out to You, answer them. Protect the children, heal hurting hearts, and provide safe shelter, food and water for those without. Place within every soul a deep thirst for You. Many have heard Your name, Jesus, but don’t yet know You personally. They have attended church, prayed to Mary, trusted in mediums, or sought truth some other way, but still walk in darkness. Please come and be their Light. Bring loving Christians to them to share Your Good News. Remove every barrier that has kept them from salvation and give them courage to choose You as their Lord. For Christians who are homeless now or who have lost loved ones in the landslides and floods, please carry them through this difficult time like only You can. Renew their strength and empower them to encourage others around them who are also hurting, offering them hope, a safe shoulder to cry on, and the way to salvation. Bless Christians so abundantly they will also abundantly bless others in need, as they share Your Good News with the lost. Bring forth a mighty movement of Your Spirit all across Pernambuco and beyond, Lord, with thousands coming to faith in You. Awaken every heart in Brazil to Your love. May this be the year of Your favor and their salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
