Continued Prayer for Uvalde

A retired pastor, great grandfather of one of the fallen children in the Uvalde tragedy, told those gathered at a prayer vigil Thursday night he does not want to have hate in his heart for the murderer.

In the aftermath of last Tuesday’s mass shooting at an elementary school in the small Texan community, specially trained chaplains and other Christians have been ministering to survivors, relatives and first responders. One Texan minister offered these three ways to pray:

  1. Pray that the God of all comfort will heal the broken-hearted and bind up their wounds. The tragedy is unspeakable. The pain is unbearable. God, have mercy.
  2. Pray for emotional and physical endurance for first responders and crisis volunteers on the ground. May their hands be steady, their minds sharp, and their hearts soft.
  3. Pray for heavenly wisdom among local, state, and national policy makers. This tragedy should be unheard of; instead, it is has become all too common. We must do better for our children. God, help us do better for our children.

Let’s also ask God to

  • Anoint and empower Christians to help the hurting into Jesus’ arms.
  • Comfort and strengthen those who are grieving.
  • Free angry hearts to forgive.
  • Release those struggling with feelings of guilt to receive the grace of Christ, see themselves through His eyes and be free.
  • Set minds and hearts free from fear, anger, panic, shock, sleeplessness and other effects of trauma, and use those He has freed to help others to freedom.
  • Set in motion a mighty movement of His Spirit in Texas and all across the US, turning thousands of hearts to Christ and setting free those who are captive to darkness.
