Angel, Miracles in Cuba

Next to Havana’s historic Hotel Saratoga, where an apparent gas explosion killed at least 46 and injured more than 90 on May 6th, a historic Baptist church also was destroyed in the blast. Praise God, of the 15 adults and three children present, none were killed or harmed.

“One man left three children in the church’s kitchen as he ran a quick errand in the building just before the explosion. Rushing back amid falling debris and smoke, the man saw a woman kneeling over the children with her arms outstretched, protecting them from harm.

“Later, on the streets strewn with debris and bodies in the explosion’s aftermath, he saw a woman, the one he thought had sacrificed her own safety for the children. With a sense of peace amid the chaos, he approached her to offer his gratitude, only to learn that she had been nowhere near the blast.

“He is now certain that an angel of God protected the children.”

Because of dictatorial paranoia, Communist Cuba is ranked among the most dangerous countries in the world for Christians. But in 1990, a revival began in the island country, which has only grown under continued persecution. In fact, last year nearly 32,000 people came to Christ. And in the aftermath of the recent explosion, as Christians shared with the lost, at least 50 have come to faith.

Let’s pray for the church in Cuba today….

Lord, we praise You for the thousands who have come to faith these past few years in Cuba. We ask You for all the more. Please protect every believer and their families from persecution and harm. Deepen their faith and grow them in knowledge of Your Word. Anoint them to share Your Good News with their neighbors and families. Give everyone around them a hunger for You. Through Christians’ love, peace, joy, and faith, draw the lost into Your arms of grace and save them. Give Christians boldness to pray for those in need, compassion to share of what they have with the poor, grace to forgive those who sin against them, and faith to move mountains in people’s lives so every barrier will come down that keeps people from Your love. Perform signs and miracles and wonders. Make the lame walk, the blind see, the deaf hear. Heal the sick. And most of all, transform every heart like only You can. Set people free from fear, pride, anxiety, hopelessness, depression, lust, and more, O God. Give Christians strategies from Heaven to reach into every dark corner of Cuba and light it on fire with Your love. Raise up young people with a passion for You who will follow Your Spirit’s leading to cross over barriers to share Your Good News in places yet untouched by Your love. Train up pastors and leaders and evangelists and Bible teachers who will disciple these thousands of new believers in Cuba. Turn the whole country upside down with Your love, such that every move the enemy makes against the spread of Your Gospel results in thousands more coming to faith, and the faith of those who believe growing ever stronger. Raise up a whole nation of hearts that beat in rhythm with Yours. In Your name. Amen.
