50 New Lives in Cuba

About 50 people have come to Christ in the aftermath of the May 6th explosion, which killed at least 46 and injured more than 90, at a historic hotel in Havana, Cuba.

The blast also caused considerable damage to Calvary Baptist Church, which housed two parsonages, a seminary, and the offices of the Baptist Convention of Western Cuba. None of the 18 people in the church were injured or killed. (See tomorrow’s post for miracle stories.) In a building on the other side of the hotel, 27 families were displaced because of damage.

Christians from the church helped pull bodies from the rubble and tend to the injured. Others helped provide medications, water, food and other provisions for the needy. A team of Christians walked the streets of Old Havana, sharing the Gospel with any who would listen.

Lord, we thank You for the lives You saved in this blast, and for the courage You gave Christians to help those in need and Your anointing on them to share Your Good News. We praise You for these 50 who have come to faith. Please meet these new believers in powerful ways. Grow them daily in truth and love, and give them courage to share Your Good News with their neighbors and others around them. Protect them from persecution and harm. Fill them to overflowing with Your love and peace so that all those who meet them will see the difference in their lives and long for You. Place them in churches and surrounded by loving Christian families who will disciple them in Your Word and help them grow. Give every heart a hunger for Your love. Comfort those who mourn and heal the injured in such a way that they will know You are the One who did that. (Continue praying here.)
