Afghans of North America

An estimated 400,000 Afghans reside in North America, mainly in these cities: (Click on each, and then head down to the map at the bottom of the page to take a virtual prayer walk of their communities.)

Many are of these are refugees fleeing oppression in their home country. Within their numbers are several unreached Muslim people groups, including Pashtun, Tajik, Hazara, and Uzbek. Yesterday and today, they are finishing up Ramadan, a month of fasting and prayer (April 2-May 1), where Muslims traditionally fast from dawn to dusk, praying and seeking God. Let’s pray He answers their prayers by leading them to Jesus.

Lord, place a deep, deep hunger for You in the heart of every Afghan in North America. As they sell their wares in their shops, cook in their restaurants, pray in their mosques, play with their children at home, … give them a longing for something more. And then lift the veil from their eyes so they will see that You are the more they are longing for. Bring Christians to them to show them Your love in such evident ways, they will quickly and easily be drawn into Your grace. Guide their internet searches to find the Good News in a way they can easily understand and readily receive. Draw them into loving churches near them that will help them with English and other needs, and show them what You are like. Give every Afghan seeker the courage to reach out and find You. Put Bibles in their hands and Christian co-workers in their workplaces. Bring Christian moms to Afghani mothers to encourage them and share Your love. Grow every Afghan church by the hundreds this year, and awaken every Afghani heart to You, O God. Penetrate their darkness with Your light, and fight for their salvation, until every last Afghan has heard Your Good News and had the opportunity to believe and be saved.
