Day 8 of 30: Persecution

30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:4-10

2 Timothy 3:12 promises that all who seek to live a godly life will be persecuted. In so many countries, even those who have not yet chosen Christ suffer beatings and imprisonment just for asking a question about Him.

Lord, today we cry out to You for those who are persecuted for their faith or even just for seeking You. Please be a Shield around every believer and seeker in dangerous places. Guard them from harm. Hide them from those who wish to do them evil. You have miraculously protected so many in the past, Lord. Do it again now. Whenever a persecutor lifts his hand against a Christian or seeker, freeze that hand and do not unlock it until the persecutor cries out to You or begs the Christians he’s persecuting to pray for him. Whenever a Christian is locked away as a prisoner or slave, give them songs from Your heart to sing out loud, joy overflowing, so everyone around them — guards and prisoners alike — will see their contagious love, peace, and joy and be drawn to You. Then miraculously open those prison doors and walk them out to freedom. Those who are beaten or tortured, even those who have been killed for their faith, heal them miraculously, Lord, and raise them from the dead, so when their persecutors return, they will see Your power and tremble. Pursue every persecutor. Get up in their face. Invade their space. Give them dreams and visions of You. Meet them as You did Paul on the road to Damascus. Blind thousands of persecutors, as you did Paul — so many, in fact, that anyone who thinks to lift a hand against a Christian will not only think twice, but run away in fear or fall on their faces before You in surrender. Then open the eyes of the blind to see You, O God of Love, receive Your free gift of grace, and become passionate preachers of the Good News, like Paul. You are the God who turns a heart around from all manner of hatred and evil to Your glorious love and grace. Give all of us who believe in You courage to live our faith out loud, shining Your light in the darkness such that You awaken those who see You in us and turn their hearts to You. There are others who are persecuted severely, as well, Lord, but who do not yet know You. They are outcasts, beaten and pursued by those who hate their race, tribe or religion. Track them down in all their hiding places with Your Gospel. Tell them they are not alone; that You are there with them. Speak to them intimately, give them a longing for Truth, satisfy their longing with Your love, and draw them up into Your arms to save them. Awaken this whole earth to You, Father. Only Your love has the power to overcome all the evil and hatred in this world.

Parallel Prayer: Our 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening coincides with Ramadan. April 2-May 1, Muslims throughout the world will be fasting and seeking God. Let’s pray they find Him!

Lord, today we want to ask You for those Muslims who have converted to Christianity and are in terrible danger, and also Muslim seekers who have been beaten, arrested, or otherwise persecuted just for asking questions about Jesus on social media. Please rescue them, Lord. Be a Shield around them and keep them and their families from harm. Speak loudly through them as they give a defense for the Gospel to those who want to end their lives. Move the hearts of those who hear, and turn them to faith. Get their testimony out to the public, making it run like wildfire, so all will hear of their courage and of Your love and grace. Draw thousands of Muslims to faith this year precisely because Christians have been persecuted. For ever Christian persecuted by Muslims, we ask You, Lord, for 1000 Muslims to come to faith. Don’t stop planting the seeds of truth into Muslim hearts, Lord. Don’t stop pursuing them. Flood them with Your kindness that leads them to repentance, so they can know the true joy, peace, and purpose they were created for.

Dinner and a Prayer: If you want to deepen your family’s prayer adventure this day, pick one or more countries from Open Doors’ World Watchlist, and search out recipes online to cook for dinner. You can also invite your children to do research on some of those countries and share what they found, or just read the information from the Watchlist about that country. Over dinner, talk about some of the barriers to the Gospel, and then pray together for persecuted Christians in those countries. Menu ideas: Indian chicken curry, Gorraasa – Sudanese Flatbread

One thought on “Day 8 of 30: Persecution

  1. Father in Heaven, My heart cries out to You for my brothers and sisters in Christ who are being persecuted or are under threat of persecution because they love You. You told us in advance that persecution would occur. You did not want us to be surprised or caught unaware, but to know the enemy has but one plan-to steal, kill, and destroy. Lord, You haven’t abdicated Your authority or power over evil. You equip believers to be overcomers when under attack. We stand on Your word that we overcome by the Blood of the Lamb, the word of our testimony, and we love not our lives unto the death. Lord, we know death and life is in Your hands. Our life is in Your hands. Father, I ask that You cover Your remnant in all the nations with the blood of Jesus. Surround each person with the entire armor of God. Give Your angels charge over them. I thank You that You promise to put Your words in their mouth and they don’t have to worry about what to say. You equip those who are persecuted for Your namesake. I thank You that You lead by Your Spirit. Oh that those who are facing such horrendous circumstances will listen for Your still small voice or other means, giving them clear directions. May they be obedient to Your voice, trusting their life to You. I thank You that You will never leave them or forsake them. I thank You that You have the means to accomplish anything. That Your will cannot be thwarted by any plan of the enemy. I thank You that You have and use supernatural means to provide ways of escape. I know sometimes escape is not in Your plan. Help us to trust You more than we fear what may or may not happen. Help those who are in dire straights who are being questioned by local officials or by guards within prison settings; those who may be held by terrorist groups. Lord, may Your anointing be upon the prisoners and that when Your enemies come within proximity of the prisoners they will be in awe of the very presence of God. They will back away from fear of angering You and realize that YOU ARE GOD. May they show mercy to those they are in charge of. May the heart of the captors be softened to realize that it is You who loves them and will forgive them for their sins and the great pit of emptiness that exists with them. May they come to their senses and realize they are being used as pawns of the evil one. May they desire truth and freedom for themselves. May they realize they’ve believed lies straight from the pit of hell. May You even blind their eyes, allowing the prisoners to escape. May the prisoners be as invisible to the captors. Lord, we want what You want. We want the gospel to go forth. We desire Bibles to be delivered to those needing them. We desire men and women of peace in villages and that no one will be betrayed to authorities out of fear or for profit. Lord, my heart is so full for the persecuted. Come to their rescue. Bless them. Save them. Undergird them. Provide for them. Make Your way known unto them. Saturate them with Your peace that surpasses their understanding. May they know that no matter what, they are victorious in You. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
