As we continue praying for war-torn Ukraine and Yemen, let’s lift up Saudi Arabia, which has been in the news this week due to a mass execution last Saturday.
Practicing any religion other than Wahhabism (a strict form of Islam) is illegal in Saudi Arabia, and leaving Islam is punishable by death, which rates it one of the most dangerous countries to follow Christ. Even so, a small number of Saudis have managed to receive the Good News, mostly through dreams, visions, or the internet. These Christians “are usually forced to live out their faith in secrecy, risking violence, divorce and more. Nevertheless, there have been some Saudi Christians in recent years who have been bold enough to share their faith at great risk to their lives.” (Open Doors)
O Lord, break through the darkness with Light. Wherever there is hatred and violence, open up a corridor for Your love to freely enter in. In just a couple of weeks, Ramadan will begin and Muslims will fast and pray for a month. As they seek God, let them find You. Draw families and communities together through kindness and love. During this time when Muslims often do good deeds and give to charity, open within them a joy in blessing others. Give them a hunger to know the One who is Love, and visit them in their dreams and in visions to show them the truth of who You are. When imams reach for the Quran, place a Bible there instead and open it to the passages that clearly point to love, truth and the way of salvation. Empower them to speak words from Heaven that will draw people into Your embrace. Give them courage to believe in You and to lead many others to salvation. Make the way for all to hear Your Good News, including Saudi Arabia’s 29 unreached people groups. Lord, in this country where all Saudis are required by law to be Muslim, write a new law now upon their hearts: to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul and mind, and to love their neighbor as themselves. Matthew 22:37-40. Point the lost to websites and podcasts where they can hear about You and be saved. Plant churches in every neighborhood and grow believers strong in faith, hope, truth and love, raising them up to positions of favor in their communities. Be a Shield around every Christian, hiding them from those who seek to do them harm, but giving them boldness to share Your love with those seeking You. Lord, so many women endure rape and physical abuse. Please set them free from the prisons they are in, and heal their minds, hearts and bodies. Raise up men who will protect women and children rather than harm them, who will bless their communities and restore right in places where wrong has reigned. Wherever there is corruption, bring down those leaders and raise up in their place those who follow Your ways. Awaken Saudi Arabia to Your love, O God. Bring Your kingdom near to them now.
